Good New Products On The Market Worthy Of Mention

So what new products have you tried recently and thought, “Gee, this product really is good!”

My nominee: Cascade Complete is for your dishwasher. We have tried almost every product over the years, but this is the first one we have found that cleans dishes, and more importantly, clear drinking glasses come out without any film and sparkling clean! We just found it a few weeks ago, and we’re not buying anything else from now on. We have only used the powder form, don’t know how well the liquid version is but will have to give it a try.

(No, we don’t have stock in, nor do we work for the Cascade company, although I wish I did have stock in this product.)

I’ve been using it for years, and you’re right. Funky haze is removed from the dishes. I still use that other liquid stuff that you pour into the little container thingy, but Cascade Complete totally rocks.

The Works is the best thing for cleaning rusty toilet stains.

I love those wet Swiffer things for cleaning my floor. And they leave the room smelling good.

Has anyone tried that antiperspirant that has the commercial where they drop the woman from a balcony into her dress…to avoid white marks? Does that work?

I’ve been touting the Alpha Grip about on the board as much as I can. I will admit that it is still a first generation product, but for that it is still very well made and good and useful product (for those to whom not having to split mouse and keyboard, and sit at a desk is an issue.)

I also have been trying to get my fellow males to start using change pouches like this or this. Though that is a class of products rather than a single one. Still it is rather silly that no one else will use them.

Has anyone tried that new shower cleaner? The one where you press a button and it sprays the entire interior of your shower?

I use a change pouch: I got sick of holes in my pockets from keys and coins. It’s leather, with a zipper. It cost me $4 across the road at the convenience store.

 my work here is done

We have been using Swiffer’s for some time now, but my cousin and his wife were just visiting, she took one look at our Swiffer and yesterday, she got in the car and came back with this Quickie Brand professional floor mop that she claims is 1000% better…with an extra mop cloth that is washable, and a spray for hardwood floors. Click on the picture to see the size of the base! Plus, the pole is one piece and very sturdy - I think this is going to be quite practical on the huge, Pergo floor space we have in the house. Already the floor looks better and you can really apply some good elbow grease with this product, unlike the Swiffer we had.

I really like the concept, but wondering how easy it is to learn, or should I say re-learn, to use that keyboard? Having never played any of the PlayStations, nor used other handheld game controls, not all that sure I will be comfortable holding it, or that I will be coordinated enough to build up adequate typing speed…but I really do like the idea and always wondered why there wasn’t a pair of gloves with microchips or something that would just let you wiggle fingers and type instead of actually having to touch a keyboard. Maybe I will give the next generation of this product a try.

Where would one hold one’s hands using the Alpha Grip? I can’t imagine sitting at my desk with one of those. Would you rest your wrists on the table, or put them in your lap? People might talk!

While we’re on the subject, and though it’s not really a completely innovative product, I must praise my new cellphone. It’s a Sony Ericsson w800i. It’s a phone. And SMS client. Which is all most people want.

It has the usual extras, such as a calculator, notepad, calendar, alarm clock - two kinds, countdown timer, Bluetooth (which you can use with a headset, or to control PowerPoint presentations) to send and receive files, and to synch your contacts and calendar. But it also has a 2 megapixel camera with video recorder. And an FM radio. It has the new Sony Walkman software on board, too, and some really good Walkman headphones. It comes with a 500Mb memory stick as standard, but you can upgrade this to 2 Gb. Because it’s a phone too, if you’re listening to the radio or music, it automatically cuts out for you to take the call. And the headphones use a proper jack with an interstitial jack socket with an integrated mic, so you can hook it up to your stereo, or an iTrip to listen to your music, but also use it as a hands-free phone.

A genuinely brilliant piece of technology, that works fantastically, and is only slightly let down by the poor PC software that accompanies it.

Not so “new”, but new to me…

My basement flooded during the recent New England floods, and ever since then I have been singing the praises of Glad ForceFlex trash bags. I could not believe the things that we tossed without a single rip.

I use a very similar mop called the Sh-mop I’ve had it for years and I have done my best to convert others. It’s lightning fast compared to other mops.

When I first saw that Gillette Mach 3 Turbo, I thought it was the dumbest-looking thing ever. But, I needed a razor and that was the only one at the convenience store that didn’t have those obnoxious ‘guard wires’ over the blades.

Turns out, it actually works great. I rarely need more than a couple of passes to get everything, there’s no scraping sensation or raw skin afterwards, and in the two years that I’ve used it I think I’ve only nicked myself two or three times.

It’s not nnew, but the Dyson DC14 Animal is the bee’s knees when it comes to vacuum cleaners.

The Web page says the Alpha Grip supports typing up to 50 wpm. That’s pretty slow for those of us who type all day. So what’s the deal? Or am I missing something?

The liquid Cascade Complete does not work as well as the powder. Not even by a mile. I adore the Complete formula. It has made it so it is actually worth it to use the dishwasher.

Kaboom/The Works both work wonders on lime-ridden water.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser-pretty darn neato. Cleans stove hoods like a breeze.

Pampers Swaddlers are the ONLY brand name diaper I can stand. The Baby Dry variety is anything but, they leak, they don’t hold much, fit terribly. Unfortunately, the Swaddlers are a tad harder to come by and only go to a size 2. I assume I’m going to have a soaking wet baby for a few years.

Degree deodorant asked about up thread: It is MUCH better than other deodorants about the white residue, it isn’t perfect, but it is superior to any other I have tried.

The Jetboil is indeed awesome.

My DivaCup has changed my life. I can’t emphasize how great it is enough.

Look for the Cruisers. That’s what my twins went into after they graduated from Swaddlers, and they fit great.

Aw, jeez! How ‘bout a heads up next time? I don’t wanna’ be clickin’ on stuff like that.
