Good PDA software?

Specifically freeware?

I’m getting my first PDA on Monday and as well as being very excited to get to play with it finally, I’d like to know what some useful software to put on it would be.

I know it’s kind of like asking how long a piece of string is, but what are some programs you’ve put on your PDA that are invaluable to you? Or just plain fun?

I’m getting the hp iPAQ rx3715. It’s got a camera, mp3 player, bluetooth, IrDA and Wifi. It’s got 128MB memory and I’ve got a 128MB sd card for it.

I’ll be using it for (among other things): note-taking at uni and work; accessing the net on the run; organising myself with regard to contacts and appointments; playing (basic) games; and listening to music. But, if there’s anything else that I could use it for it’d be nice to know!

Its OS is Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003, so obviously I need software that will run on this system, but I was thinking this thread could be a handy resource for Palm users as well.

For Palm, a piece of software I use everyday.

MyCheckbook - http://www.thequickster.com/

Free, functional, beamable, and just plain cool.

I’m fond of my converter program, Mobipocket (yay books! Especially since the NY Public library started lending them out), Adobe reader, and backgammon.

And since I live in New York, X-Man is a necessity. (has all the cross-streets north of Houston programmed in)

I haven’t found a map program that I like, though.

I use Handy Shopper to make grocery lists, plus people use it to keep track of all sorts of list-based things - movies in their collection, steps to get done in a project, etc. It’s probably available via http://www.palmgear.com/

Okay, I know this is a long shot, but does anyone use or know of a Chinese word processor for pocket pcs? I really want to be able to input Chinese characters…

Even better than freeware, open source!

Can’t comment on the content (I have a Palm OS PDA myself), but http://www.freewareppc.com/ looks like a good place to browse (the Palm-related sister site is good).
