I had to pick up a certified letter and they did not make me wait in line behind 1000 people mailing xmas packages to granny in Florida.
They let me go to the front since I just needed to pick up, not mail anything.

Had the same experience at a bank in Mexico. If you were depositing, you could go to the front of the line. Works good for cash flow.
I assume this is only done around Christmas.
No, it’s not just at Christmas. I’ve been at the post office with one of those cards indicating a package is waiting for me, and someone will call out for anyone who just needs to pick up packages.
And here’s my story of good service at the post office. A few years ago, my parents sent via certified mail their passports to a consulate in New York to get visa stamps. After they didn’t hear anyting for over a month, they got worried, so we inquired at the little post office in town. They said they’d look into it. It took a few days, but eventually they tracked it down to one carrier in Manhattan who was sitting on about a dozen certified mail envelopes. I was pleased and a little surprised. I assumed the envelope just got lost somewhere in the system.
I’ve experienced this more than once at our local Post Office when I went in to pick up mail from a vacation hold. In fact, the vast majority of my Post Office experiences have been positive. I’m sure the stereotype exists for a reason, but I’ve never really witnessed it in action.
Nice to hear they do it year round.
I rarely go to the PO these days but they normally get me in and out pretty fast so I have no complaints. I don’t ship much but if I do I use UPS most of the time.
My local post office is always friendly and helpful. They know who I am, even though I only come in a few times a year. They’ll dig through looking if I know I have a package due. When my horse died they expressed their condolences. Last week when I was sending Christmas cards to Doper kids, the guy sorting mail asked me if the bridge to my house was closed because of the rain. They’re just neighborly. Forgot to add - if I need stamps on something, I just put the unstamped letters in my mailbox along with some money. They’ll stamp my letters and make change for me.
