I’ve recently acquired an mp3 player that I’m going to use when I’m running. Can you recommend some good songs for this purpose? Most of the soundtrack from the Rocky movies will be on there, but what else?
Runner, by Manfred Man
Ride Like the Wind by Christopher Cross
Runnin’ Against the Wind by Bob Seger
Runnin’ on Empty by ??? (Bachman Turner Overdrive???)
Send in the Heros by John Williams (on the 1996 Atlanta Olympics soundtrack CD)
It really depends on how fast you run. At a moderate jogging pace, Eminem’s Lose Yourself, Kim, and almost anything by Disturbed, Linkin Park and Korn are quite adequate.
Jackson Browne.
For pacing you got to go with metal. I like Iron Maiden’s *Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. * If you keep up with the beat you will have run 2 miles by the middle of Can I Play with Madness. About 14 minutes.
I wouldn’t recommend “Baby Elphant Walk”. I’ve tried it.
*Man in Motion * by John Parr (from St. Elmo’s Fire).
Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow’s Stranger in Us All album would probably make good running music, although “Hunting Humans (Insatiable)” and “Ariel” are both kind of slow paced.
“The Show Must Go On” by Queen…which may actually be on the Rocky soundtrack.
“Ramble On” by Led Zeppelin.
Of course, of course Cake’s “Going the Distance.”
The Chariots of Fire Theme
Take it to the Limit by The Eagles
Nobody Left to Run With*- Allman Brothers.
Everybody to the Limit by Strong Bad.
Not quite sure if that fits – I’m not a runner myself – but “Frantic” by Jamie O’Neal? I generally can’t keep myself from breaking into a trot when that comes on my MP3 player and I’m walking somewhere.
“Run to Me” by the Brothers Gibb
A hijack perhaps, but my serious advice is don’t listen to music while jogging. Especially if you’re a woman. Rapists and muggers target runners wearing headphones because they know they’re easier targets due to their inablity to listen to their surroundings. I’ve read that wearing headphones while jogging increases your odds of being a crime victim by a factor of 200.
I’m not a woman, the music is at a very low volume, and I only run in daylight in places where there are lots of people around. But I do appreciate your concern.
Too funny!!!
When I was running, I downloaded a metronome and figured out what a good pace was for me, then tapped out the beat to the metronome and found songs that I really liked that fit the tempo.
“Holding Out For A Hero” by Bonnie Tyler. It’s on the Footloose soundtrack.
I once listened to that song six times in a row while on the treadmill because it really made me run hard. It has an excellent fast-paced aerobic beat.
I forgot to mention some of my songs that I like to run to:
Cruel (Live) - Tori Amos (I like this one because it’s long)
Comin’ from Where I’m From - Anthony Hamilton
Rimshot - Erykah Badu
Have a Talk with God(?) - Stevie Wonder
