Okay, I’m one of those who happens to like em. Nice and icey with a spicey cocktail sauce. However, there was the one time I found a live tiny pink crab in one. How he got in there I have no idea. He was dispatched by a lion fish in a nearby saltwater aquarium at the hands of a rowdy tablemate.
Cite?
But I did not come in here to take potshots at Ex, as much fun as that is. (And where is Welby? Isn’t that his job?) I’m going to be serious for 30 seconds (maybe less) and ask you to send healing thoughts for my brother-in-law and housemate, who is in the hospital with a glucose reading of 400 and the attendant diagnosis of diabetes. He’s only 28, so it’s a bit of a shock to us all.
Ok, that’s enough reality for now. I like my reality in the smallest possible doses.
I like flan, I always have. I would call bad flan fluid or liquid, loose maybe, not drooly, but that’s just me and I’d probably eat it anyway. I like creme brulee (with or without the accent marks) too, unless it’s too burnt, so keep Rue away from it with that blow torch. Although I definitely think Rue should have a blow torch. How’s he going to repair Bettie without one? (Have you tried that one with The Little Woman?)
The thing I would call drooly right now is me. Ugh. These envelopes taste terrible. Why am I licking envelopes, you ask? Because I am feeling particularly brain-dead this week, and am trying to find jobs that look and sound busy but don’t require much in the way brain power. Copying and mailing expense reports fits the bill nicely - much paper rustling and stapling, and the hardest part is remembering to put the report in so the bar code shows through the window.
That wasn’t a ‘strange’ look, that was a, “OMG, is this really happening to me? I can’t believe my luck! Dear Penthouse…” look.
One last thought*. Raw oysters = teh ICK! Yucky, yucky, yucky! I’ll eat sushi, but I wouldn’t touch an oyster on a dare.
*There is a long, involved and stupid-if-you-weren’t-there family joke about this phrase, so I’m <snerking> about this all by myself. Thank god no one’s in the office, or they would no doubt be giving me stranger looks than **Kalley’s ** waiter.
Oh, I’d touch an oyster Winnie. I just wouldn’t eat one.
My sweetie like oysters raw or steamed or fried or stewed. My mom gave him a shucking knife as a gift! I think they smell funny and look ick, but I’ve been known to steam a batch for him or make stew for him. 'Cause I’m nice, you know.
I had honest-to-goodness yummy flan at a pot-luck lunch at work years ago before I started boycotting them. It was incredible! Not at all like the nasty stuff at the Chinese restaurant.
Oh yeah - we’ve got a winter storm headed our way. Possibility of up to 6" of snow. Fun, huh?
I’m thinking I should take tomorrow off.
Oddly enough, my wife loves oysters.
Could we talk about something else now? I’m sorry I brought it up. (Which is the only reasonable thing to do with an oyster if one has eaten one.)
Personally, I loves oysters. Lurves 'em, I do. And I can always find 'em down here when I need them. Steamed is prefered, for much the same reasons swampy says. And when I get them, I always get a double order, because the Factotrix won’t eat hers.
Wintermute, I hope your BIL does well. Is this a temporary thing, or the onset of Adult Type II?
And scout, have fun on your trip to DC. Bring skis and a parka, 'cause it’s going to start snowing over this way tonight (the circus is in town, and it always snows when the circus is in town) and I’m sure DC will get some of it too. I know Bob is ready for the snow, 'cause his side of the Bay always gets more than this side.
I don’t think I’ve ever had oysters. I like clams - fried clams specifically. Although the part I probably like is the fried part. I usually get them when we’re up in Maine - yum!
Cross your fingers and toes - all of you! I’m supposed to meet scout tomorrow night - and snow is in the forecast! Send out some “not to much snow” vibes, please!
Susan
And I do know the proper usage of to vs. too - I swear I do!

I don’t know yet. He only went to the doctor for the first time about this last Fri. (Feb. 18), because he was drinking just incredible amounts of liquid. The doctor did some tests, but BIL was supposed to go back this week for follow up. But over the long weekend he developed a rash, was throwing up and just felt miserable, so my sister called the doctor’s office yesterday morning and they sent him to the emergency room. I saw my sister briefly last night, and she said they were checking him in for 24-48 hours to monitor him. I haven’t talked to anyone today yet.
The thing is, he’s a big strong guy, and I think I keep expecting him to just bounce right back, but he’s not.
Wintermute, sending best wishes to you and your family. I hope everything turns out alright.
Oysters! Blech! Eeeewwww! My grandpa ruined oysters for me when I was in second grade. We were camping out on the Hood Canal, like we did most every summer. Grampa called me over to him and handed me a raw oyster just out of the shell. Problem was, he didn’t tell me NOT to chew. Being a rather naive young girl, I chewed…and chewed…and chewed. It was totally nasty! Since that day I can’t even stomach the sight of them. Come to think of it, ol’ Grampa ruined crab for me too. We had gone crabbing and had come back to my parents house. Once at the house, the cleaning and boiling of crabs was begun in earnest. The stench was unbearable. Then they made me EAT some crab. Blech, and extra blech.
From time to time I try crab, still can’t stand it. Funny thing is, I like lobster. I like clams, but cannot ABIDE scallops. Those just taste N-A-A-A-STY!
You poor Californians and East Coasters! All this terrible weather you’re enduring. The sun was out again today and at 5:30 this evening it’s a balmy 59 degrees out. This is warm for this time of year. As of last night there wasn’t any rain in sight. It appears that So Cal has gotten all of our winter weather.
I need to eat some din-din, but nothing looks or sounds appetizing. The nephew is here and he kindly brought along some KFC, but, just doesn’t sound good. I’m hungry too, but I just don’t know what I want. I’ll probably go ahead and have the KFC…I’m just too lazy to bother with anything right now.
I’m preparing chicken tagine with cous cous for supper tonight. Is saying chicken tagine like saying curry and not acknowledging the very many different kinds of curry? Hmmmmm… Also, cous cous is a good word. Pantuflas is my very favorite word. Yes, I’ve had much too much caffeine today, why do you ask?
Wintermute, I do hope your brother in law will get everything straightened out health-wise. My sister thought she had diabetes, back in college. She was drinking tons of water, was tired all the time, etc. It turns out that the frozen breakfasts she was eating at every meal were chock full of salt. The cup o’noodle snacks weren’t helping either. Let’s hope this (real) case is as easily handled!
I find it incredibly funny is the Air Force on the other side of the fence scheduled a joint disaster drill with our side for tomorrow. Considering how Hampton shuts down for 1" of snow, they might have to put it off because we’re closed.
Attacks Things Randomly Husband likes his new title.
Oysters are scary. Seafood is scary. Except for fish and chips, because that’s just grease that’s been deep-fried.
This is why nature wisely placed you hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean. Philistine!
All the more for us, shibb.
wintermuteadd my good thoughts for your BIL’s recovery.
Am I the only one who thinks this has been a really loooooooooooong week? I feel like it should be Friday today.
Also, I am very tired. I haven’t been able to get any energy back since Grampy got sick. ashes, could you bottle some of your energy and send it my way? Thanks.
Tupug (Le Tired)
Well, I took a look at the weather radar, and it seems that the snow/rain line is north and west of us, around Richmond or so. But DC, and northern Maryland are getting the white stuff. Hope you guys aren’t too put out by the storm.
I put the orange meatloaf in the refrigerator last night, ready for cooking today. Because of me being at work and the Factotrix’s medical appointments today, we can’t use the crock pot. So it goes into a roaster pan. I’m positive that her daughters won’t eat it - it’ll look just too weird for them. So that means they’ll get the manicotti and chicken cassarole leftovers, and I’ll have most of the orange meatloaf to myself. Yea me!!!
WHAT?? You mean it’s NOT Friday? :smack:
Well, Mr. Lissar loves sushi. Real sushi and sashimi, not the veggie-for-wimpy-white-people type. I think we make a good contrast- I sit looking all Japanese and sneering and at the weird fishy foreign food, and he scarfs it down with extra wasabi.
We do live on a big lake. Want me to go catch you a three-eyed fish with feet?
I made the most wonderful dinner last night. Don’t look if tofu scares you! Lovely, lovely, lovely - and just wonderful reheated at lunch. For those who don’t click on the link - it’s Chili-Glazed Tofu over Asparagus & Rice. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
And today I feel good - I am working on fixing a program bug that has existed since before I came to this company (1 year ago, so not really that long). It should have a huge positive impact on a lot of people - so it’s all good.

I am home early because of the snow. I’m not exactly sure why. The grass is white, as are the trees, but the roads are just wet, and a bit slushy if they’re side roads. But they said we could go home early, so I did.
I cut my left thumb at work today. I was messing around with a pair of scissors (no, I wasn’t running) - trying to scrape some adhesive mess off the blades. And I slipped, and sliced into the pad of my thumb. And I didn’t have any bandages at work. So that wasn’t fun. As soon as I got home, the first thing I did was bandage it up. So I’m not bleeding all over the computer.
The snow is supposed to stop, then start again. We might get a late start time tomorrow. Stupid snow… wait… this is in my favor. Yay snow!!!
