I just got a phone call a little bit ago, from my sister, who let me know our grandmother is going to the hospital. She’s got a bad pain in her leg we are told, and it needs to be looked at. So she’s being transported, with all due care, from the nursing home to the hospital. My mother and my aunt, (two of her daughters), will be joining her shortly.
It’s not a crisis in the sense of, say, heart pains or trouble breathing but Grandma is 107 years old and any pain is grave cause for concern. You never know what kind of upset can be the last one.
So if you would, can you please send good thoughts, vibes, or prayers for my grandmother? I want only that she be happy, she’s the most wonderful grandmother a person ever had. Except for other people’s wonderful grandmas of course!
Amazing to have someone you can talk to at 107. She’ll be in my thoughts, Baker. Hopefully she just strained her knee a bit doing squats, and will be back to normal in no time.
I liked this one, it made me laugh, and I need that, what with the worry. Grandma is closer to 108 actually, her birthday is December 17th. She was born one year to the day after the Wright Brothers flew at Kitty Hawk.
I just got a call from my father, who said Grandma is headed back to the nursing home. X-rays at the hospital found a stress fracture in the leg. She has a splint on now. I don’t know how healing progresses at that age, but I’ll be praying for it.
Great news. Do you know if it’s displaced or non-displaced? I had a non-displaced stress fracture when I was…well, much, much younger than your grandmother is. Pretty easy recover at that point. I hope hers is too.

Wow! I was reading your OP, and thinking, “OK, she hurt her leg. Um, I hope she’s OK?” And then, 107! I exclaimed “Oh dear!” out loud! Wow, I hope everything is smooth sailing!
Well, the word is now that there are “greenstick” fractures in both bones of her lower left leg, just below the knee. The cast is both above and below the knee but has a “cutout” that leaves the kneecap exposed.
Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. Grandma is on pain meds and a little woozy right now, I’m told, so I’ll wait a couple of days to see her.
Hopefully she’ll heal up well. This is a woman who had a mastectomy at the age of ninety-one, and is still here to tell about it. Good genes, I hope I’ve inherited them.
Don’t worry about the stories, we’ve done that. The family is very close knit. I’m her oldest grandchild, she knows all my ups and downs and I know many of hers. I have three CD’s of interviews I did with her years ago.
I’d give my life for her if it would help her be happy.
