Good venue for a company picnic within 50 miles of Houston?

I know there are a bunch of Texas Dopers around, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. One of my colleagues asked me today if I knew of a good place where our employer could hold a shindig celebrating the outfit’s fiftieth year, sometime in June. This would be somewhere we could host about 50-75 people, adults and kids, preferably with outdoor entertainments of some kind. Yeah, I know it’s gonna be stifling hot and humid around then. I’m therefore leaning toward someplace with a swimming pool, or near the water, like down around Kemah, but really, I’m open to any suggestions. If we go with a place someone here suggests, I’d even offer a spot at the party to the winner and up to five guests, if they’re interested. Cheers.

Which side of Houston do you want to be within 50 miles? Then again, 50 miles in Houston traffic - most of your employees will just opt for staying home rather than dealing with it. Maybe a better ? would be what part of the metro area the office is located? There’s lots of parks around but it might be a problem reserving a shelter for June at some of them.

Well, north, preferably. The main office is near Greenspoint, but there’s a secondary facility near the Beltway and Katy Freeway.

There’s Bear Creek Park, along Clay Road that has lots of shelters (near Hwy 6)
A little farther west there is Mary Jo Peckham Park on the Northwest side of Katy. Shelter, lake, mini golf, indoor pool, playground…

Near Bear Creek Park is Cullen Park which also has shelters, playground equipment, and bathrooms. Houston Barbeque Company is nearby if you’re looking for catering.

The pavilions at Bear Creek park are nice, but you have to reserve them in advance, and I know they are all booked for the weekend of June 21st/22nd.

OK, thanks, folks; I’ll check these out.

I can see this place from my house. It’s southwest and probably more suited for larger groups. They had the Maxim Superbowl party there a few years ago.

Regal Ranch

I pass right by here at least twice a day and forgot all about it. It’s located on the west side of Barker Cypress at Saums Road. The park gets a lot of use from soccer teams, but I don’t really know anything else about it.

The BBQ place is not like it’s right across the street, but if it’s the one I’m thinking of the food is OK.

Just within the 50 mile limit, off the I-10 at San Felipe: Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Isn’t Brazos Bend State Park also within 50 miles (down 59, more or less)? I seem to remember it being pretty nice as well.
