Good Website for WoW Gear Help

I was kicked out of a group the other day because my gear (level 85 Night Elf Druid, Balance) wasn’t good enough.

Can someone give me a website that will help me figure out what to look for as far as maxing out my toon’s gear w/r/t my class, race, and talents?

Thanks!

FTR: gearmytoon.com = fail. They only support level 80, and I’m 85.

I love askmrrobot.com - they allow a lot of flexibility in what gear range you’re at (pre-raid, various raids), what sources you want to draw from, etc., plus they access the Armory to use your current character as a base.

Well, what exactly are you looking for?

The first step is to figure out what your stat weights are (or at least a rough priority). Elitist Jerks indicates your priority is Int >> haste = hit/Spirit > mastery > crit.

Then I normally just use Wowhead.com, and set up a search with weighting. So you could do something like this: A list of Leather Chest pieces with iLvl > 333 sorted by your stat weights.

Then just find out which ones are the easiest to get - for chest pieces it looks like Chestguard of Forgetfulness - Item - World of Warcraft is the most straightforward, being sold for 2200 JP. If you don’t have the JP then it looks like Deadmines and Grim Batol are your best bet (normal or heroic). For a quick upgrade the PvP crafted gear isn’t horrible, and might be better than what you have.

Also, seconding MrRobot if it has the right weightings for your class. It’s a bit dodgy for me right now because I can’t get the Haste + Unholy Presence thing to work for my Frost DK.

Hey, I came across this thread this morning, I’m one of the people behind Mr. Robot.

Jas09, glad you like the tool, and we want to make sure it’s the best quality out there. Can you stop on by our forums and let us know what’s going on with your Frost DK? If there’s a bug, we’ll fix it!

Came in to 2nd the askmrrobot site. They’ve done a great job over there. (so much easier to understand than rawr)
I also use wowpopular.com and will just take the ‘popular’ with a grain of salt. Popular is not always best. (it’s better with gems/talents/enchants over gear)

Not a bug. It’s just that there is a divide between the “best” way to gear a Frost DK right now - two basic schools of thought. I’m not comfortable with the new paradigm and am still getting better results using the old weightings. Obviously other players handle it differently.

It’s easily fixed by adjusting the weightings manually, which is what I do.

The only other caveat I have with it is that I’m pretty sure it doesn’t “do” trinkets (beyond primary stats) and tier bonuses - but I might be wrong about that.

Oh, and if you’re still checking this thread (not sure I want to register on another forum right now), here’s a suggestion. I love the options for reputation, PvP, expensive stuff, etc… What I’d really love is an option to Optimize without changing gems. Basically just do the re-forging stuff assuming I don’t want to swap out a ton of gems just because I got one new piece of gear.

Thanks for the clarification. And actually, I’m glad you mentioned trinkets, because we just improved their calculations with 4.1… As you know, the estimates for the worth of trinkets varies pretty wildly, from people quoting worst case scenarios to best case scenarios.

We decided to just bypass all guestimating and build a simulator to do this for us. So we simulated each trinket for each class and spec. So if you’re a warlock and you’re looking at the trinkets, they are valued differently than a mage perhaps.

Here’s a list of our trinket results… just click on the class and spec and it will give you our results  http://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/trinkets

We also do account for set bonuses.

As for locking gems/ench/reforges, we get that request a lot. So we’re likely adding that in as a feature in a future release.

I’ve just got my priest to level 85, and while I’ve been using Mr. Robot, especially for my reforging, I must admit that I prefer the setup on www.wow-heroes.com. I used to love the be.imba site, but they’ve never upgraded for Cata. I find that since I’m pretty casual, looking at just the absolute best-in-slot (even pre-raid BiS) is somewhat limiting. Wow-hereos seems to give me more options regarding which enchants would be usefull without breaking my bank account. Also, there’s a find upgrade button beside each gear slot that will pull a filtered list of upgrades from the wowhead database, so I can look at my options.

Also, there is a bar on top showing roughly where you are in terms of being raid geared. It’s silly, but I get a rush whenever I reload my characters profile from the armory and that bar moves … As an aside to Zoopercat, if you want me to shill your website all over the webs, you need a progress bar!

This only covers gear, enchants, gems and whatnot. For info on specs and rotations / spell prioritities, I’ve found that elitistjerks.com is the standard place to get more info for endgame play. For more general info, I’d recommend posting in the huge WoW thread in this forum. It gets regular views from many players more experienced than I, and they can probably help or point you in the right direction.

I’m not a shill for this site, I’ve only heard of it in… this thread, but Mr Robot seems to have all of the stuff you’ve mentioned. It has an “ignore expensive enchants” button, next to each slot there’s a “…” button which will give you filtered item results, along with weights and a number telling you how big of an improvement it is. It also allows you to set things like “Pre-ZG/ZA, Pre-raid, and Pre-Tier11” so you don’t just get useless information like “Tier11 is the BIS.” To which you reply “NORLY!?” (I’ve had this problem, it’s usually a pain to find BIS for certain milestones).

While WoW-heroes is prettier, and I love the progression bar, I think this site wins by sheer number of options.

Sorry, I never meant to say you were. I was referring to Zoopercat, who has admitted that he is affiliated with askmrrobot. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, or his website, which I admited I have used and is very useful. I just prefer wow-heroes, and no one had mentioned it yet.

:smack: How did I miss that “…” button, the lack of that, or something similar, was my biggest beef with the site. That, and the general layout, which is a bit confusing and also is kinda ugly.

Of couse the best part is that you can use both. I agree with the more options part and think that’s another reason to mention wow-hereos, for a fresh 85 I think it is more straight forward and less likely to confuse.

@Mithrander - funny you mention a progress bar, we have one on the mobile app (releasing soon)… we’re posting updated screenshots sometime tomorrow I believe. The article will show up here, it will be stamped as #4: http://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/article/general/mr-robot-is-going-mobile

And as for shilling the website for us, well we don’t ever ask that  We just happen to have a lot of fans who like the tool so much they share it around the web. Which isn’t surprising considering we currently get about 1 Million optimizations each week  And maybe once our progress bar goes live, we’ll have another big fan, eh, maybe?!! I have a feeling you’ll also think the design on the mobile app is pretty slick.

As for wow-heroes, it has a different purpose than Mr. Robot. It’s a progress and status site for your character. Mr. Robot is all about optimizing your character. And then you have simulators like SimC or Femaledwarf that let you play with spell rotations (among other things) to see what results in the highest DPS. Our perspective is that each of these types of tools are complimentary to each other, and as mentioned, can all be used! In fact, we work with several developers of the other tools to integrate functionality to make user’s lives easier

Just a suggestion – you guys should add a basic print function, primarily “print optimizations” and “print BiS.” This would print out a sheet listing your items and all reforges/enchants/gems you should put on each, while print BiS would print optimization for the BiS, as well as listing the items and where to find them.

+1. I spent an hour the other day copying everything down on pen and paper. :smack:

Hey Zooper, I found a bug –

For an Unholy 2H DK, if you set it to pre-ZG/ZA you get BiS is Record of the Brotherhood’s end, for Pre-Raid/Post-ZG/ZA you get BiS is Notched Jawbone. If you already have the notched jawbone and set it to pre-ZG/ZA, the UI will inform you that you don’t have your BiS, even though it should be better.
