I have used both of them for years and know the basics but I feel like I am missing out on a lot of their capabilities. Any websites that have a good selection of tips, tutorials, sample files etc. for learning relatively advanced techniques?
Whatever you do, never, never, never go for the free training CD from this guy. Or you will be sorry. Even the Consumer Reports blog has no nice things to say.
Make sure you’re using Office 2007. The interface is MUCH improved and much easier to learn intuitively (ie, without any prior reading). Feel free to also read the larger tool tips and the help articles they link to. The most important thing about Excel, probably, is formulas. Another thing I find very handy is copy&paste juggling. E.g, select a column with Ctrl+Space, cut it with Ctrl+X, insert it elsewhere with Ctrl+’+’.
Wow… the Video Professor?! But he’s such a nice guy! How could an educational DVD be a scam?
You might like to take a look at this YouTube channel, especially the Excel Basics Series and Magic Tricks playlists. Really an amazing resource, even if the chap giving the tutorials is sometimes disconcertingly … enthusiastic (especially in the earlier videos).
Thanks for the suggestions. That youtube channel looks especially useful.
I have found www.ozgrid.com very helpful for Excel. I have used it for reference but I think they also have tutorials. Also a lot of material on VBA for Excel.
That site is NOT connected with Consumer Reports. They do sometimes include information from CR.
