Backup software. So I need a good software that will handle incremental backups. I have an external HDD that we back up to and we want to back up to an FTP server offsite, any recommendations?

I’ve been impresssed with Dantz Retrospect.
Same. The low-end Retrospect Express will do you just fine to just make incremental backups of your own local HD to local backup media.
(The full-fledged version will back up every computer in your office over the network, etc.)
Last week, I downloaded SyncToy, which is one of the PowerToys software that Microsoft offers for free (but unsupported) for Windows XP. I use it to synchronize the My Documents folder from the C: drive to another physical drive in my computer. I’m going to try using it to sync My Documents with an external hard drive. It might work for you, and it’s free.
I’m using SmartSync Pro, and it seems OK. I’m not using it for remote backup, but it’s supposed to be able to handle it.
Oh, the SmartSync home page is here:
I used Retrospect back in the day when I was supporting a Macintosh DTP environment, I loved it. I was looking into it, and I couldn’t find FTP support on the PC version. I did a search of the site for FTP and everything it came up with was Mac. I would love to go with Retrospect, but I need to backup to FTP as well.

Have you looked at Veritas Backup Exec? I’m not sure based on the online literature if it can backup to an FTP site, but it supports a variety of backup devices and can backup servers at remote offices.
Really interesting. It’s really cheap too. I am going to look more into this one.
Thanks,
Erek
Mind you, it’s not perfect. If you want to set up a large number of separate top level folders to be backed up, you have to enter a destination on each one, which is a pain in the ass. Some other bits of their UI seem niggly. And it really bogs down your machine when it fires up and starts copying files. But it is pretty feature rich, seems pretty solid, and you will note there’s a 30 day free trial.
