Sorry to bump an old thread, but I find it very funny that a Type 1 Tendrils combo player is calling Null Rod “evilness”. I agree it hoses your deck, but as far as who brought evil to the table, I’d probably have to throw the scales to the other direction.
Power Surge is the real loser on the Mana Burn change. The only use of it now is to punish people who have lands that don’t tap for mana or only have abilities that for some reason they can’t play. There actually is a recent example - Eye of Ugin - but they’re very rare these days.
One thing it does is to make the decision about whether to tap something about to die for mana. It used to potentially cost you some damage, now it’s free. It’s in direct contrast to what they did with combat mechanics, although obviously combat is a much larger part of the game then destruction of mana sources so that’s not much of an argument against it.
Plague Sliver. Oddly, the Oracle text says “permanent” instead of “creature”. Are there non-creature Slivers somewhere?
I got back into Magic right around Zendikar, after being out since about Urza’s Saga. I don’t get much time to play these days, but I’m really, really liking pre-release and launch parties. I think the Limited format is more fun than constructed formats. Booster drafts are awesome.
I’ve heard good things about EDH, but I’ve only ever played one game of it so far. Looks to be a blast as well.
