My eyes are wet and I know why. This song seems appropriate.
The video of the man comforting his arthritic Shepard in the water went viral last summer. He had another year with his friend.

That song is never appropriate.
Everyone has their own song or poetry they think of when death occurs. The man’s bond with his Shepard got to me earlier. They obviously had many good times together over the years.
So sad. I love my dog.
Longer article with more pictures. Its unusual for a dog to live 20 years. He had a good long life.
That story touched my heart, aceplace. I forgive you for the earworm.
Good dog, Schoep. Every year a pet is in your life is precious. Schoep and his owner were indeed fortunate to have 20 years together.
that has got to be the worst song ever recorded
Why do you hate dogs?
I prefer Bronte by Gotye. I’ve sent it to friends here and there when they’ve lost their pets. Gotye wrote it for a friend of his who lost his dog. I just love it and it makes me cry (in a good way, for my own loved and lost) every time.
You obviously never heard the “B” side of that single. It was called “Put the Bone In.” You don’t even have to hear the melody to appreciate what you’ve been missing all these years:
"‘Put the bone in.’
She begged him at the store
Cause my doggie’s
Been hit by a car
And I do want to bring
Him home something
‘Put the bone in’
She yelled out once more."
The question is: Was Terry Jacks an animal lover and incredibly bad poet, or was he a rogue trying to see how far he could go before being censored?
When my beloved dog, Whitney, passed several years ago, her vet sent me a sympathy card with a snippet from a poem that sent me bawling. It’s called “To Those I Love” by Ilsa Paschal Richardson.
Out of respect for copyright, here’s a brief part of it:
Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you…
I loved you so –
You were so good to me!
'twas Heaven here with you.
The full poem can be found here.
Edited to add: Dammit, I’m bawling again reading it.
Thats very sad. At least the dog is in heaven with all the other dogs who graced our pasts and is feeling no pain.
