I read a straight dope column, recently, in which Cecil gives pretty good evidence that Goofy is a dog. (I’m not going to give a link, because I don’t know how, but you can go to the Straight Dope archives and search “goofy”.) I’m willing to agree that this is Goofy’s official species, but something tells me that in the past it wasn’t so clear cut. I am particularly thinking about a series of old disney cartoons I remember from childhood in which every character was paired up with a girlfriend. Mickey with Minnie, Donald with Daisy, etc… The thing is, Goofy was dancing and kissing with a similarly drawn character who looked just like Goofy only with horns and a very bovine pair of teeth; because of this I always thought goofy was a cow, or at least a bull without horns. Does anyone remember this or am I crazy? Who was this character and why was she dancing with a dog? I guess I’m just confused, so any clarification would be very helpful.

Probably Clarabelle Cow. She was usually partnered with Horace Horsecollar, whom you may be confusing with Dippy Dawg/The Goof/Goofy.

goofy’s a dog, but he was around the cow woman(don’t know how to spell her name…too tired…(it’s 4 am…)) alot, and so was horace…love triangle or threeway? 
I was surfing around and saw this thread about my father and coudn’t resist answering. We always just laugh about all those old rumors over Clarabelle and dad. Of couse she’s married to Horace and the two of them went to lots of shindigs and parties with Mickey and Minnie when Goofy wasn’t there at all. There was just that one party where things got a little silly and …well I guess all their parties got a little silly… but anyway, they’re all really good friends and it so happens, Mr. and Mrs. Horsecollar are my godparents. I don’t see them as much as I like now that they’ve retired and gone to live in Florida with Clarabelle’s sister Elsie.
Anyhoo. Goofy is definitely a dog ( I’m just rolling my eyes here) and so is my mother but you wouldn’t know her as she never got into show business.

Maxie is my brother. I’m a girl and I never was in show biz so don’t bother looking for pictures, Lute.
BTW Max’s girlfriend, Roxanne, is obviously a dog. Cocker Spaniel heritage I would guess. I think she looks a little like Lady of Lady and the Tramp. Maybe they’re related.
