If Bugs Bunny = Mickey Mouse, and Daffy Duck = Donald Duck, then who = Goofy?
I know that Bugs and Mickey are not at all similar in character, but they are both the iconic main character of their group. The ducks are similar enough to each other, both being an irratable 2nd with a hair trigger.
Mickey, Donald, and Goofy make up a trio in Disney, so who is the closest to filling that role in Warner’s Looney Toons?
I always thought it was Porky, but I’m not so sure. Taz seems more popular but doesn’t seem to fit the power trio as much.
I’m going with Porky Pig. Porky and Goofy are both generally good-natured characters who get into trouble because of misunderstandings. Granted, Porky sometimes loses his temper which Goofy does not. But that’s just a difference between Disney and Warner characters; Disney characters are one-dimensional while Warner characters are two-dimensional.
I was thinking Elmer, too, especially since all three are connected in that trilogy of cartoons - “Duck! Rabbit! Duck!” “Rabbit Seasoning” and “Rabbit Fire.”
Since Mickey, Donald, and Goofy form a trio for Disney, Elmer fills the role of the third character for W.B.
You shouldn’t underestimate Porky’s status in the pantheon. He was one of the original Warner characters and its oldest star; he predated Daffy and Bugs.
