Google 1 gigabit fiber to the home, I can't wait!

I spend half my time in Kansas City, MO, the other half in Chicago, IL. Kansas City is a pretty dull place in general, especially compared to Chicago. It is pretty near the exact geographical center of the United States. I think that is one of the reasons Google chose it for their super high speed Internet experiment.

Right now, I’m on SureWest cable, the main selling point of which is that they are not Time-Warner. They have better service than their competitor, but the three options around here - AT&T, Time-Warner and SureWest (nee Everest) all share one limitation - an upload speed that is a tiny fraction of their download speed. When I upload an HD music clip that I shot, 5 minutes of music can take a freaking HOUR to get to YouTube.

So I checked the FAQ on the project, and didn’t find my question, which was “How fast is the upload speed?” I got my answer this morning:

Yes! Symmetrical upload/download speed!

I hate you.

Nah, nah, nah.

By the way, don’t hate me until it is installed and working.

Sorry, I have to hate you now. Soon you will be able to overwhelm my capacity to express my envy; I have a short window of opportunity.

I would like to express my envy but at my whopping 45K/sec upload rate, you will probably have the new system installed and working by the time this message shows up. :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope when they roll this program out, they quickly expand it to Johnson County. I’m trying to sell my house and it could definitely use this selling point.
