Google Apps Download Dates

I bought the 2nd Gen Moto X back in November. I love it. It is currently running lollipop.

Recently - in the last 2 to 3 weeks - the battery life has plummeted. It sucks down the battery to the point where it almost gets too hot to hold in my hand.

For the first couple of months, it was great. If I only used bluetooth and GPS when I needed them, I could get almost 36 hours of battery life. Now I’m lucky to get 12 hours.

I think it might be an app or something that I installed or an update to a previously installed app. I’d like to get a list of apps and updates that were installed so I can go remove them one by one to find the culprit. But I can’t find anything as simple as that.

I know I can do a factory reset, but that is a lot of work getting all my apps and data back on the phone. I would like to do much more targeted troubleshooting rather than the nuclear option.

Looking at the battery section in settings isn’t giving me much info. None of the apps shown there seem to be taking up too many resources. “Cell Standby” is at the top with 7%. But looking at all the apps, they don’t add up to 100%, so I think there might be something running that it’s not telling me.

Based on reviews I’ve seen if you’re getting 12 hours you’re doing pretty good.

Note the comparison chart. 5:45 is “average”. 8:10 is “excellent”, and was the longest life of the phones they tested.

I would not be so concerned if the battery life hadn’t drastically changed only within the last 2 or 3 weeks. Consistency is key.

Also, that review doesn’t really specify what they consider “typical real-life usage”. If they’re only getting 5:45 out of the box, it does not at all reflect my personal “typical real-life usage” since I was getting over 24 hours out of the box up until a few weeks ago. While their methodology gives a good base for comparing with other brands/models of phones, it is not a good way to compare two phones used in different ways.

I have never had a smartphone (and I’m currently on my third one) that could get more than 5 or 6 hours with any kind of actual use other than making or receiving a few phone calls. On standby most of the time, sure. If I’m going to be somewhere all day with no access to a charger I’m turning off data, bluetooth, and gps and avoiding using any apps.

Here are more reviews that indicate what you’re reporting is not typical:
