Google Earth - moving up/down the Road

I’ve been trying to use Google Earth and it always leaves me frustrated.

I’ve got panning down pretty good. But turning around is awkward. If I’m going down the road and want to go back in the opposite direction. Isn’t there a better way than making a big circle with the mouse? It’s so cumbersome. Is there a keystroke to flip around and go in the opposite direction?

Traveling down a road is extremely frustrating. I finally figured out that I could use the scroll wheel to zoom back. Then, there’s two arrows (forward, back) in the middle of the screen. I can click the arrow and go forward a few feet. Click and go a few feet. It takes 20 clicks to go one block! Each time I click, the whole image goes out of focus for several seconds and then sharpens. It makes me almost nauseous after a while.

Everybody says Google Earth is the greatest thing since sliced bread. There’s got to be a way to travel down a road without clicking a thousand times.

Can someone help?

here’s a map I’m working with. Note that it starts funny, turned to the side. You have to pan left to get oriented on the road. I try to think of this like I was in a car driving. Obviously, you want to be ointed straight down the road as you travel.

In the bottom right hand corner there is a small representation of the arial view. Click and drag the little Googleman up and down the road.

The googleman is neat. I haven’t used him before. He does make it easier to move. But, it’s more of a jumping action. I was hoping there was a way to make it travel down (scroll?) the road.

It’s going to take awhile to get used to the “tunnel” feel to google earth. It’s like you’re walking in this pipe.

My creative writing teacher uses google earth to explore locations for his stories. He’ll describe locations that he’s never visited except on a computer. I’d like to do the same. If, I can ever get comfortable walking inside a pipe.

It’s not the smooth scroll you’re looking for, but placing your cursor down the road a piece and doubleclicking moves you along faster than using the arrows in the road does.

I love Google Earth and Streetview, although I’m still waiting for some German cities to come online. They can look at my street and house, so how come I’m not allowed to look at theirs?!

Seriously, though: My one complaint is that when you click on the little camera on the map, you see the bubble appear and grow, but them GE spins you around so you’re not looking in the same direction as you were in the overhead view. It’s disorienting to say the least.
