Google/gmail and April 1

Dunno about Gmail, but I was google-ing earlier on today and discovered I could no longer “search within results”, that’s just crap. It’s like any other search engine without SWR … hmph

Context-specific ads actually aren’t annoying, if done properly. I like seeing ads for products or services I’m interested in. It’s only when you start indiscriminately advertising everything to everyone that it gets annoying.

As for the lady in the linked picture, it’s not unreasonable to suppose that when her parents had a baby in April, they chose to name her after the month. So it seems quite plausible to suppose that a Google staffer has a wife or girlfriend named April, whose birthday really is now, and to whom he’s wishing a happy birthday.

Umm…yes you can. The “search within results” link is at the bottom of the results page. It takes you to a separate page to do the search, though.

Hmm, well they’ve moved the link thingy, it never used to be over there <hmph>
