Go to Google and enter your telephone number with area code seperated by hyphens. It will say no matches found but it will also have your name, city, state and zip code at the top of the results page! Some people may also have their entire address associated! If that is the case all a would be stalker/murderer/theif would have to do is click the YahooMaps or MapQuest icons to have a printable map to your home from anywhere in America. Yikes!
If you don’t believe me, try it.
I think if you click the telephone icon on the search results page there is a way to remove your name and number from the database. I assume it works but I haven’t done that yet…yet.
Just thought I’d share…carry on.
And you can go to www.anywho.com and get the same thing by doing a reverse lookup.
These databases have been available for years.
hmmm…well its news to me! I still find it creepy.
There was another thread on this in the past coule of days. There is a way you can have your name removed from this “service”.
In any event, it doesn’t bother me, since I did the search, and somone else’s name comes up. Well, actually, on second thought, it should bother me, because I do get all kinds of “wrong number” calls.
I’m non-published. It doesn’t show mine.
I’m not listed. Nor am I in any of the reverse lookups. This is why God invented non-published telephone numbers.
I do, however, appear on Caller ID. Damn you to hell, SBC.
There is an upside to this. It works with fax numbers too. Ever read a blind employment ad directing you to fax your resume to a fax number?
