Google Name Game

Here’s a fun game that I just made up (or at least think I did. If I actually bothered to do a search in the history, I’d probably see it’s already been done 50+ times; but it’s new to me, and that’s all that matters).

Search for your first and last

  • A Confederate General
  • An actor
  • An amateur herpetologist

That’s really all I could find of interest.

General guidelines: If someone with your name is extremely prolific, I probably wouldn’t post about them (unless you generalize it), unless you don’t care about any stalkers finding your name. For that matter, you probably shouldn’t post your name either :p.

Happy Googling!

Googling my last name has only ever found pages that mention my family members - we use a somewhat unorthodox spelling of our last name which no one else uses, apparently. Googling my first name gets me hundreds of references to the historical person I was named after. Googling both together gets me… well, me.

Sometimes having an unusual name is a pain.

Let’s see, you get

  1. a famous person’s wife
  2. me!
  3. some woman in England
  4. something about lacrosse
  5. and some very dead women who have lived across the centuries. Apparently my namesakes were big on the babymaking.

All in all, nothing very interesting.

I write a lot of stuff for imdb that other movie sites borrow from, so of the 170 hits for my full name, about 160 of them are actually me. A few, though, are for a French race car driver with the same name.

Searching just my first name brings up several actors, authors and a professor, while just my last name lists a chemical company, a candy company, and some weird Japanese woman sharing recipies for “[my last name] balls”. I hope she’s referring to the candy company.

My name gets several pages with the same two people.

Me, and an immigrant that has the same name, but is not related to me at all. My first name is really common, si I didn’t even bother searching it. My last name isn’t common at all, but still turns up about 66,000 results.

If I search the names individually, the results are different. My first name is really common, so I didn’t even bother searching it. My last name isn’t common at all, but still turns up about 66,000 results.

Upon further research, apparently I work at NASA.

A designer.
An artist.
A mathematic geneology ph.d.
A ham and cheese sandwich.

Hooray for the Scottish surname!
