Gore wants a fourth count

I honestly don’t know how this works, but it was my understanding that the president wasn’t offically elected until the electoral college cast their votes on December 12.
Is this correct?

If you want to play the “voice of the people” card, you should be wanting Gore to have the office on the strength of the national popular vote. However, that’s neither here nor there.

My take on what “the people” have said is this:

  1. Both candidates are self-serving numbskulls with little real difference between them, who manage to make Clinton look statesmanlike.

  2. There are serious flaws with the electoral system at all levels, which need to be addressed as soon as possible in a responsible, nonpartisan manner.

  3. More election news? Change the channel!:stuck_out_tongue:

As for me, I move that we throw out the election and get two new candidates and start over.

I saw on the news the other day that in at least 5 states, the number of ballots thrown out was around 10,000, and Bush losing those states by about 5,000.
SO it seems that these discrepancies happen all over the place. No one has ever examined them so minutely before.

Comparing to some 10,000 votes in one county in Florida with the statewide vote difference is less than 600? And, of course, Bush is asking for a manual recount in New Mexico, because apparently, it’s a legitmate concept anywhere but Florida.

Latest polls show mixed feelings, while a majority are not pleased with Gores handling of the post election stuff, a majority also want the votes counted, and the FSL to stay out of it. If the Bush team strategy of delay past the point of no return works (and there’s plenty to suggest that it will), he may have an uphill battle in public support.

Well, that is a big difference for one county.
I saw count all the votes. Heck, I don’t care which of the two is President.
Maybe in 04, people could just go in, announce their choice of president vocally, then there would be no more confused ballots.

Not to beat a dead horse, but if the numbers you quote are correct, those thrown out ballots would have to break 3-to-1 in favor of Bush (7500 to 2500)…assuming an intent of the voter could be found on all of them…in order to change the outcome. Pretty unlikely, n’est pas?

I think they were trying to show that lots of ballots get thrown out; this election was closer than most.
It is a good thing they give them 2 and a half months after being “elected”, or this would’ve beene ver weirder than it is.
