I just absolutely love this album. The concept is cool too (they’re a virtual band, the members are all cartoons). All of the songs are different, but they tie into one another well.
I just had to share. :).

“19-2000” kicks so much ass. I’m with ya Doob. I love the video for it too. You can find the video on the Gorillaz website They have such an original sound.
I just morphed the whole album the other day.
I love “Clint Eastwood”…I managed to download about half of it the other day.
My kingdom for broadband!!
jayjay
Good album, I particularly like the web site, and the ability to bring up screens that mimic Atari ST and Sinclair computers, browse their files, etc.
As an avid user of file sharing, I just have to add to the comment about taking half a day to DL the song. Mebbe just buy the album?
Whoa! Dude! Buying music!
What a novel concept…
Um…sorry about the above…I’ve been P2P too long…
jayjay
the future is coming on…
Love that video, especially the part where the cartoons are dancing a la Michael Jackson’s Thriller…or is that Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm?
Doob you know that I love the CD to death. The concept. The songs. The music. The voices. The characters. The people who put it all together.
I love it all.
I am glad I went out to get this CD.
I will have to check out the video for 19-2000, I didn’t know it was up there.
pat
Yeah, you can find it on their website (as was mentioned). It’s really a funny video, and it fits the song well (I like the part with the UFO :)).
The website is really well put together too. In 2D’s room there’s an e-toy on his computer, which allows you to put music samples together to make your own songs. You could spend several hours at that site.
It’s not like this is a completely NEW idea… Prozzak has been doing it for, what, 2, 3 years now? (And remove the cartoon bit, and it’s not dissimilar to bands like Daft Punk and (IIRC) Klaatu who refused to let their real faces be seen.)
Not that I’m dissing Gorillaz - I love ‘Clint Eastwood’ - just sayin’…
I didnt say it was original to them (when i wrote that, i was thinking of the Archies, since that was mentioned in a review of the Gorillaz). Just said the concept was cool.
I think these guys are pretty badass! I love the video and the music. Great band.

Dang, I’d completely forgotten (suppressed?) The Archies.
Yah, it is a cool concept, no matter how many times it’s done.
Just wanted to say Prozzak is cool, though.
I looooooooves me some Gorillaz. Dan the Automator can do no wrong, as far as I’m concerned. I bought the “Tomorrow Comes Today” single as an import because I couldn’t wait for the album. The album, of course, now that it’s out, rocks my unworthy head.
Gorillaz as an whole rocks my unworthy head, really. This is what pop music should be.
I can die a happy man now. I finally saw the video for Clint Eastwood in its entirety! I cant wait for 19-2000 to show up on MTV.
Yeah, Gorillaz kick ass…about every few hours or so, the Dj on our local new-rock station (101.5 KROX) comes on, jokingly complains about all the requests he’s getting for Clint Eastwood, then plays it.
Encouraging note: A few nights ago, the overnight show (Andy Langer’s Next Big Thing) played “Rock The (Tha?) House” Happy-Happy Joy-Joy!
And I still need to get that CD into my computer so I can check out Murdoc’s RV…
Yes that is a great album. I love it because there is a wariety of music on the CD and it suits any mood. I love that song “Tomorrow Comes Today”.
I LOVE this album. It is the first new band I’ve really liked in some time. Sure, I dug PJ Harvey and Weezer’s new albums, but those guys have been around for years.
It just warms my heart to hear something new that isn’t A) Rap/Metal, B) Teenie Pop, or C) Alterna-Lite get played on the radio/MTV (and be really good)
It’s fresh, original, funny and a damn good listen from begining to end.
Buy this album if you haven’t!
[sub]Pssst: Jayjay, I downloaded Clint Eastwood at first too, but I loved it so much I bought the album. And for the first time in some while, I didn’t regret making the purchase.[/sub]
A buddy of mine saw them in Europe. They are touring. The musicians are behind the animation the audience sees. The website is great. Russel’s links are the best. Dukes of Hazzard’s website is linked.
They do an old skool punk song. Aptly nameddd “Punk”.

Ah, but they are so much better in their ‘real’ band. Did they get airplay outside of Canada?
Anyways, I have to drop the Gorillaz predecessor, Deltron 3030 (nobody here has shown them any love :(). Their album was easily as good as the Gorillaz album (especially the Albarn stuff). Also, I heard that Dan the Automator is working with Ex-Rage frontman Zack De LaRocha on his(Rocha’s) solo album.
As for the RV, dude, it’s been gone since the day the album came out domestic.
Also, Daft punk just picked up this “anonymous” thing with their newest album (or rather, started wearing outfits to interviews). Saw photos of them when their first album came out. They are hardly depriving the world of their presences…
As for downloading, it’s the only way to get the Gorillaz doing “Dracula”. Without buying a single, that is…

Or you can buy the American relase (I think it’s the enhanced version too) of “Gorillaz” :). It’s on there.
And, what are the lyrics to “Punk”? I’ve been trying to find them.
