Got my carry permit today!

Inflammatory? Really? Then I truly don’t understand.

An obvious reason why states do not want to honor licenses from other states.

If you’re being honest, then I apologize for jumping on you. The point being that the topic of “why are concealed carry holders carrying” has been beaten to death on this board, even to the point of us being called “glowering, brooding psychopaths” and worse.

I just examined the Arkansas application. Arkansas does indeed honor the licenses of some thirty other states. I am impressed despite such questions as “Kid, have you ever been arrested?” and “Do you swear allegiance to the United States Constitution and the Arkansas Constitution?”

I carry my 92F in an inside the belt holster in the small of my back. Works pretty good and is fairly comfortable even when driving.

The Wiki Entry says this about AOW:

Now I have seen information from the BATF that the holster itself is considered AOW, but I was just searching their website and searching for AOW or Any Other Weapon provides no information.

I do know that the holsters that were available for Derringers and some NAA pistols had been pull from sale after the BATF made the ruling.

I have a Taurus PT99, which is pretty much the same thing as a 92F. I also have some back problems. So I can’t imagine carrying it there and being comfortable sitting, let alone driving that way.

I have a pair of jeans that is pretty loose, back from when I lived in a state that reasonably allowed concealed carry. I used a holster such as thismostly. Works well with a kilt. With jeans it was a bit tough in a car, maybe because I have a bit of a gut. I now live in NJ. I will not apply for one here to avoid having to explain the answer to the question “Have you ever been denied a carry permit in another state?” when I move back to a more reasonable state.

I’m in Missouri and we recognize everyone’s permits, even from states that don’t reciprocate. So come by and pay us a visit. We can go to my range and shoot some steel!

No. The handgun is a standard handgun with rifling and everything - it just happens to accept a shotgun shell. TC Contenders and a lot of other .45 LCs do/can. And the holster is a wallet that doubles as a holster. Sort of like the fanny-packs with the break-away section where you can have your piece.

Practice basically. If you wear it around the house for a few weeks (when you can safely) and you basically get used to it before wearing it on the street. I grew up in a rural area where a lot of people carried something - be it a firearm or Buck knife - and it just becomes second nature. I’m right handed but I usually put the S&W in an inside the belt holster on my right hip butt forward. I’ve practiced the draw enough and had it there often enough that I never touch it or really notice it.

Which is another reason for practice. Most cops or people who live with firearms can spot someone packing a block off - almost as easy to spot as the weekend druggie. They have to keep touching the gun to make sure its in place and not slipping. It isn’t – unless you got a really cheap rig. Think of it as a “poker tell” you have to break yourself of. Again, practice practice practice.

The model I have argues that it isn’t designed to be fired through and so far the government agrees with them. Just because a stubborn person can do so is another story. I’m very cool with the BATF rules and I follow them; they change their mind on mine and I will comply happily. I have a better than usual chance of needing to use it so using it unlicensed/taxed would just be stupid.

Put the fun between your legs.

Congrats on the conceal carry. I’m thinking of getting mine in the near future. I don’t plan to carry, just want to make it easier to transport and buy.

Since a couple of people have linked to Thunderwear holsters, I’ll plug my favorite concealed rig:

Comp-Tac

ETA: For a pocket holster, I just buy one of those cheap Uncle Mike holsters with the plastic belt clip on the exterior. Just remove the belt clip and you’re good to go.

That’s great if you have one that they’ve not disallowed. In the past I had seen them made for the AMT backup in .380 that had a hole for you to work the trigger, and I know that they were pulled, but maybe they were only ruling on that particular model.

I often use a Nemesis Super Fly pocket holster. It’s got some sort of sticky rubber on the outside so it tends to stay in place when drawing the pistol. I have one for my Kahr PM40 and one for a S&W 642. Both work well.

When I buy pants I always stick my hand in the pocket to check the depth so I’ll know if the pistol will fit OK.

I always look at where the belt loops fall. Some I modify by pulling the second or third loop on the right so that the clip from the holster has just one layer of cloth to go over. Years ago someone actually marketed pants made for a carry rig (with one loop missing and some reinforced stitching) but they were pretty crummy looking pants.

Oh, and today in my continuing quest for regular employment, I applied at a security guard company and when I told them I have my carry permit they seemed very happy about that. Some positions require a sidearm and being already licensed to carry opens more options and makes the training process a lot faster. We’ll see how it goes.

Well at least they know you’ll pass the background check.

Good luck with the job.

Has anyone here had to actually fire a gun at someone to defend themselves in a public place?

I have to agree with GuanoLad in not understanding the US gun culture (even though I am American).

This has been addressed repeatedly. This is not a gun control thread and therefore, what you are doing is threadshitting and hijacking the thread. Take it to a different thread.
