My brother in law and I were talking about this after the zombie hoards hit our grocery stores on Friday. His thought was that the last time he saw shortages like this was when he was working in Williston during the peak and people were getting robber walking out of grocery stores. If this keeps up too long I wouldn’t be surprised to see some civil unrest. The 5 grocery stores withing 20 minutes of my house were all sold out of bread, milk, pasta, rice and meat on Friday.
This morning when my wife checked again they had managed to restock some of that but we bought them out of milk and potatoes.
Oh, yes. The rednecks around here are buying ammo like crazy.
So dumb. IMHO.
I live in meth alley and roving gangs were trying to break into my house while they knew I was in it for whatever meth heads want, I can’t imagine things better better now with them.
You mean – reliable statics are tabulated day to day on gun and ammo sales?
Gun and ammo sales probably go up if someone shouts “Boo!” loudly enough. If there’s one thing that’ll protect you from (whatever the specific concern is here) more than guns and ammo, it’s more guns and ammo. It’s snappy, and it’s got a nice cadence.
Dip those bullets in virus or they’re wasted. Bang! Bang! “You’re infected!” That’s the way!
Are firearms supposed to deter shambling viral victims busy hacking their lungs up and sweating profusely? Do we see panic buying of slingshots, archery gear, machetes, switchblades, other quieter weaponry? Or is COVID only repulsed by explosions? A few airbursts over hotspots should do the trick. What, they’re still coming? More power!
Expect the NRA to promote “mercy killings” of the feverish. Paraphrasing an old song, “if your lover has a fever then you gotta do him in.” Just stand back so you’re not splashed. And don’t inhale.
Don’t try this at home, kids.
And because Fox and the WH keep saying this is a “foreign virus”, it’s probably only a matter of time before someone shoots through their door at a random Asian person. “I had to protect my family against the dirty, virus-infected foreigner! Standing my ground!”
Is the increase due to gun owners buying more guns and ammo, or is it due to non-gun owners realizing that having the means to defend themselves might not be such a bad idea after all
Non-gun-owners don’t need ammo. We still have a couple of pistols in the house but the ammo is out in a steel shipping-container-cum-storage-shed that came with our forested property. That’s so when the house goes ablaze and the county fire crew shows up, they won’t hear rounds detonating and so back away and let the place burn down. Prudent.
I know food sales are up but ammo? Sort of gives new meaning to the old phrase, “Eat lead”.
There are always some on the far right who kinda hope that this will be the thing that causes society to break down, and with their arsenals, they’ll be kings who can make those liberal pussies grovel.
Surprises me there’s still people that want more guns after the great Beto “Hell yes” run of 2019.
Yeah, with him decisively clinching the Democratic nomination, and all…
What, you haven’t heard of the reverse-Superman gambit where you just throw the ammo at the baddie?
They’re doing it in this ‘neck’ of the woods too. So stupid…
I was in the local sporting goods store, trying to buy some ammo to try at the range which was my next stop, and some shoot-n-c targets. All out of 9mm, every weight, even FMJ target stuff. Normally, the place sold something like 8 guns a day. At that point, around 1pm, they were already up to 40. I congratulated them on their good fortune, shook my head, and finally found my targets.
Checking out, I asked the cashier, “They know they can’t shoot a virus, don’t they?”
“Sir! They are trying to protect their families.”
What from, especially this week? Ok, whatever, good for them. It’s their money.
No sense of humor…
As someone alive and in LA during the riots, it would be a fool who doesnt do everything possible to protect their families. If the supply system breaks down there will be people who will steal to feed their families. SoCal doesnt really have much naturally occurring water and most of our amazing farmland has been paved over. A worst case scenario here will be hellish with our massive population.
Next time I see you - this will be coming at you a lot faster.
When seconds count, dial 9-1-1 and the police are only minutes away.
Yeah, except Biden got on stage with Beto recently and said "You’re going to take care of the gun problem with me. You’re going to be the one who leads this effort. I’m counting on you.” I take that as a tacit endorsement of Beto’s “Hell yes” approach, and perhaps would result in a taskforce position in his administration. He also has directly said on 60 minutes recently that he’s going to ban assault weapons and was instrumental in the 1990’s assault weapon ban.
