To me, it doesn’t redeem Gordon at all. He still execution-style murdered someone. The fact that the victim was magically brought back to life has nothing to do with Gordon’s actions.
I’m still enjoying the show, but (to me) if they thought that got Gordon off the hook, they failed completely.
They need a lot more Butch though–I love that actor. And–although there’s really no way to do it, I’d love for them to bring back whatshisname–the guy who played Salvador Marconi in the first season. When he and Penguin were together, they stole the damn show.
‘Redeeming’ is probably a poor word choice. I simply meant getting Gordon off the hook for committing murder in a practical sense: he can’t be under indictment or suspicion for Galivan’s death anymore. The state of his immortal soul remains murky, to be sure.
Agreed on Butch; he’s a great character, and the actor who plays him does an excellent job. The guy who played Maroni was good, too, but not necessary to have back, in my opinion. I liked Falcone, too, but except for his brief cameo earlier this season, I suppose he has fulfilled his narrative purpose.
