Re the refinery and employees taken hostage in Algeria, two Canadians were thought to be amongst the terrorists and apparently they were I.D.'d by passports which were also speculated to be forgeries.
All this aside, I have to object to CNN’s banner ‘Canadian terrorists’ responsible for this terrorist act. Tabloid level of news reporting.
"Canadian Terrorists’ doesn’t really suggest anything, other then that what’s being discussed involves Canadian terrorists. It doesn’t even suggest that a group existed, never mind that it was completely made up of Canadians.
News banners are limited to a few words. Criticizing them for not giving the whole story is silly. If you want to find out what they’re talking about, your supposed to listen to the news program.
Why am I not surprised when I see a pit thread which boils down to “x has given incomplete information on a subject” and I read it and say “I have no idea what you’re complaining about. Perhaps you can provide more complete information?”
I agree. News outlets should take great care before alleging that terrorists are Canadian. The terrorists are entitled to their day in court and the opportunity to prove they are not any of the things they are alleged to have been, including Canadian.
What about that Canadian who beheaded the guy sitting next to him on the bus? I tell ya, when I see a Canadian nowadays, I shoot first and ask questions later.
