My cousin is a teacher in Minneapolis and ICE is terrorizing the schools – waiting outside when school is over to harass and detain teachers, students, etc. They are also terrorizing local residents, citizens and non-citizens alike.
In one of the many Minnesota/ICE threads, there’s a terrifying video from a woman who let a DoorDash delivery person into her home after ICE chased her inside. The homeowner and driver were both citizens, both terrified of being detained or shot. The ICE thugs were outside on the lawn, demanding to be let in without a warrant, with their hands on their weapon the whole time.
Minor incident – my cousin, who is swarthy, went to his car to get a toy for his kid. Three ICE SUVs pulled up, the thugs jumped out of their cars, and started asking about his citizenship status.
Walz has an obligation to protect his residents from this kind of terror and should post National Guard troops at schools with a large Hispanic or immigrant population, and around neighborhoods with those demographics. They should help escort teachers to their cars, make sure local residents aren’t being harassed.
I know there could be serious repercussions. What happens if there’s an armed conflict between the Guard and ICE? Could this trigger some broader internal conflict?
Personally, if the ICE bullies got pushback from real soldiers, I think they run away with their tails between their legs. But, if there is a conflict, let it happen. ICE is acting like the Brownshirts or the Gestapo, with immigrants and immigrant-looking citizens in the place of Jews, Roma, etc. It’s horrifying. Something has to change.
The president can nationalize the guard of any state with one order. Then the guard is deployed and answering to trump. That might not improve things as much as you’d hope.
Not for law enforcement. And if the President does issue that illegal order, then the Governor can countermand it, and force the Guard to consider which order is illegal. Which is what Newsome should have done when Trump ordered them to LA.
And don’t expect to have any effect. Trump will send ICE goons to every Democratic city to terrorize people from voting. Only congress could restrain him and they will not. Even if they try to defund the ICE, Trump will find another way to pay them,
The ICE is Trump’s private army. This is fascism raw.
It’s not one woman shot in the face. It’s constant harassment, arrests, detentions, terror. Read my OP – my cousin just went to his car and three ICE SUVs come up and start asking about his citizen status. Teachers being detained for helping kids get home safely. It’s all over Minneapolis and St. Paul.
This has to stop. It has to be brought to a head and we can figure out if ICE and the administration will back down, or will we continue on our march towards fascism.
ETA: I’m offline the rest of the night and most of tomorrow. I’ll be reading responses, but mostly not responding. Sorry for semi-abandoning my own thread.
IC3 had to pull out of Chicago in order to terrorize Minneapolis. They literally don’t have enough manpower to do two cities at once, let alone the entire country. Trump is rapidly overextending himself, and we need to keep up the pressure on him, because that’s the path to bringing him down.
Milder, but not saner. A lawsuit that won’t get resolved for months or years, and which the administration will immediately ignore, isn’t a sane response. When there’s a terrorist army on your turf, you don’t respond with a lawsuit.
There is another way. Just submit. ICE has a duty to protect Americans by getting rid of anyone who’s in America illegally and Minnesota isn’t special. Take it from a Dixie boy — if your economy depends on exploiting non-citizens who don’t pay taxes, the US federal government WILL fuck you up. There is no outcome where you get to keep your slaves/illegals. Are you willing to die to protect your corruption? That is what I would say to Mr Walz, unfortunately I think he’s more afraid of what his Chinese handlers will do to him if he doesn’t fall on his sword.
I don’t see how going door-to-door harassing people, arresting US citizens at their workplace and dumping them beaten and bloodied eight miles away, and shooting unarmed women in the face is “protecting Americans”. Seems like ICE is a lot more dangerous than “people in America illegally” are.
Whoever told you non-citizens don’t pay taxes was an idiot.
“Vote Republican - The US government WILL fuck you up!”
“Slaves”? Methinks the Dixie boy doth protest too much.
New poster @bigdawg99, the Politics and Elections and Great Debates have specific rules regarding hijacks and off topic remarks, which you would do well to review before posting again. They’re pinned to the top of the forum for easy reading.
You comments bring up multiple unsupported hijacks including Walz’s supposed Chinese handlers, that MN depends on non-citizen labor (beyond what the rest of the US does), etc. You are of course, free to suggest that the answer to the question of the thread is “No.” Or even “Heck, no”, and discuss the OP’s concerns about the consequences. If you instead want to talk about the other topics, you would need to create your own thread, ideally with clearly researched cites/evidence.
How to Reply as a linked Topic
Click Reply, in the upper left corner of the reply window is the reply type button, looks like a curving arrow point to the right.
Choose Reply as linked topic and it starts a new thread. As an example, you can choose GD, IMHO or The Pit for it.
That is actually the best method.
As you are a new poster, I’m not issuing a warning, but off-topic posting, especially in P&E/GD or otherwise ignoring the forum and board rules will result in us reconsidering your posting privileges.
Again, please read the individual forum rules, as well as our TOS (Terms Of Service) to better understand the board requirements, which I will additionally link for you.
That will happen whatever Walz does. Whatever anybody does.
Did I say “will happen”? It is happening.
I’m not sure what Walz should do with the Guard. But we can’t all go around trying not to get Trump mad, because that’s a lost cause. That’s who he is.
