Governor Graft, I mean Taft

Apparently Bob’s been a very very bad boy.

This is an outgrowth of that coin scandal we’ve talked about before.

The first governor of Ohio to be charged with a crime?! A golf-related crime? Amateurs, rank amateurs!

To the north of me the guy embezzled work for his $100,000 “cabin” and to the south another guy put his male lover on the payroll. Now those are scandals you can take to the bank.

Ahem. Anyway, too bad. Was he up for re-election?

Okay, but what did he shoot?

His mouth off.

No, he was termed-out.

Having a famous great-grandfather can protect only so much…

Update:

Taft plead no contest and received a $4,000 fine

Also, it sounds like (depending on who you listen to) that Taft came forward and admitted to the indiscretion before he was called on it by someone else.

I’ll wait for more details before I pass judgement.

I’ll pass judgement.

Coming forward, pleading guilty, accepting the consequences of your crime are all admirable in a way, but this doesn’t change the fact that Taft was engaged in illegal and unethical behavior in the first place.

The criminal aspect of this isn’t a big deal, and has been satisfied, but the political aspect is much larger.

We have seen many cases in recent years of politicians behaving as though the legal and moral strictures that we all must follow don’t apply to them. This is a corrosive and dangerous belief, one that has corrupted both major parties to a degree, and it must be ended. And if politicians have to get in trouble to end it, so be it.

Surely you don’t think anyone would stoop so low as to make hay out governor Taft’s golf dates with Mr. Noe?
Noe’s Lawyer Says Taft Knew About Coin Fund in 2001:

Both his father and grandfather were influential Senators as well.

He’s fired people for the exact same type of ethical lapses; he should resign.

His GG campaign slogan was, “Get on the raft with Taft”.
His is “Get on the graft with Taft”

I may not agree with you often but, in this case, wholeheartedly.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Calling Bob Taft a wiener only insults wieners.
