It’s hard to run a committee that leaves no tern unstoned in investigating Hillary, the Obama Administration (easily the most corruption-free Administration of my lifetime - hell, even Ike had Sherman Adams), and Dems generally when the Dems aren’t in power. After awhile you run out of remotely credible targets to investigate instead of investigating the Trump Administration. What’s a guy like Trey Gowdy to do? Guess he went and did it.

He’s not really retiring now, just announced that he wouldn’t be running for re-election so other aspiring politicians know they can file to campaign for the seat. He’ll still be in Congress through the rest of the year.
