Grammar Nazis, could you review my recipe writing skills please?

I prefer “8 1/2.” While my eyesight is good, the “½” is pretty small, and trying to distinguish it from 1/4 or 3/4 would be annoying, I’d think.

pulykamell Yes, you are right, that does make reading it more difficult. (and I couldn’t read what “ALT” 0176 was)

Perhaps Scarlett67 could have chosen a bigger font size in displaying those characters.

°   ¼   ½   ¾

… and by changing the font size, Fellini’s 8½ displays much better don’t you think?
Gee, I wonder what Shakes thinks of all the replies now?
That’s what you get when you ask a question on the Straight Dope Message Board.

It may be just me, but I’m confused whether I’m supposed to put the chuck in a cold Dutch oven and then put it on medium heat, or heat the pan first.

And I’d definitely want a more quantitative measure for the brown sugar, even if it’s “to taste.” A palm-ful of brown sugar might be 1 Tbsp or so, while a heaping handful may be over 1/2 cup.
