What is the corect way to word this sentence:

I only hope you can come to tolerate my cultural plebeian-ness.

Should it be:

I only hope you can come to tolerate my cultural plebeianism.

Plebeianness implies your culture looks like or contains the quality of something Plebeian.

Plebeianism implies your culture intentionally aspires to the ideals or beliefs which make it look like or actually be Plebeian.

“Plebiance” or “plebianism” would work equally well, I think.

“I only hope you can come to tolerate my cultural plebeianism.”

“I only hope you can come to tolerate my cultural plebeiance.”

Yes, it is (according to the OED), but it sounds somehow more stilted than the above.

My first guess was “plebeity”. Turns out it’s actually in the OED as “obsolete, rare”. The etymology notes the Latin word “plebitas”.

I’d completely restructure the sentence to avoid whatever clunky version of the word is correct. How about I hope you can tolerate the fact that my cultural tastes are rather plebian?
