Rachel I am so sorry. There are no words that can adequately convey the level of emotions that your posts have envoked. I was unhappy when I heard that she was ill. I was encouraged when she made small improvements and I am deeply sadded to hear that she has died.
Please know that because you have shared your stories of your gramma’s struggles with us, although her tired body has sucumbed to the fight, her memory will live forever in our hearts. I will think of her whenever I hear the words chique, Rachel or gramma.
You and you’re family are in my prayers.
Spider Woman and I attended the wake last night.
We were late.
When we got there, the pastor was asking people to share stories about Gramma Sandy and life on the Sandy farm.
From what I heard, it sounded like she was quite a woman and a little bit of a character.
We talked to Rachel a little bit, she’s doin’ fine, and passed along some hugs for the rest of the SDMB.
Rachel, you know that Laura and I are just a phone call away, so don’t hesitate to call if you need some something, be it an ear to listen to your troubles, a shoulder to lean on, or a heart to go out to you. We are here. I know you will be fine.
Bob
Bob, I was SO shocked to see you and Laura there, but I’m glad you both could make it.
You were wrong about one thing, though…gramma wasn’t “a little bit of a character”; she WAS a character
One of the flower arrangements was from my brother’s friends; did you guys see it? It had a royal flush attached to it. See, before my bro and his buddies could buy legally, they’d go over to the farm, grampa would buy beer…and gramma’d play poker and clean them out
Did I mention she was the daughter of a Baptist minister? From Sweden?
GodDAMN I’m gonna miss her
It sounds cool though.
It was nice to meet your grampa, who seems like a cool character himself. So is he the one you watch the Vikings games with?
I didn’t actually approach the coffin. I usually don’t if I did not know the person who died, because it just seems to be morbid curiosity. We just came to talk to you.
I’m so sorry, Rachel. You have had too much to bear in too short a time. Please take care of yourself.
Much Love,
Cheri
I’m very sorry, chique.
