Grand Theft Auto V

Well I was finally able to play multiplayer twice over the weekend. It was interesting. The bounty system is a neat innovation, and I like that so many more stores are open. There are races and parachute jumps and other events all over the map, you can play solo or wait for other players/friends to join. For some reason my character didn’t have enough strength or fitness to do the parachute jumps.

However, the “cloud servers” were always down so it never saved my character. I’ve created 5 or 6 characters so far in trying to get multiplayer to work and save.

I also read that anyone can kick you from the server, doesn’t seem to need a majority vote. If that’s intentional then that will be royal pain.

Right. Pretty much like any other hostage situation!

Yesterday, my good friend Trevor stole a P-996 Lazer Fighter Jet from Fort Zancudo.

It’s a bit tricky, since the instant you get there the alarm goes off and everyone starts shooting at you, but if you proceed through the story line probably you’ve been there before to steal something else. The jet fighter is slightly trickier because you have to take off horizontally, but it has a remarkable short run required for liftoff. The next problem are the missiles that the base shoots at you; you can dodge those (really!) or stay very low to the ground to prevent them. Evade the four star wanted rating (mainly, avoid helicopters), don’t fly into any mountains, land at Mackenzie Airfield.

Trevor has a fighter jet!

Obviously this is a great idea.

On a XBOX you go to System settings and then memory. Select your harddrive and find the GTA5 section. The select the 59MB update. You’ll get an option to delete.

When you launch the game it then asks you to download it again.

It worked for me and I spent a good bit of time messing around online over the weekend.

I suspect the kicking issue is not someone kicking you, but a glitch. Can’t be sure. I’ve only had it happen once to me.

What’s the deal with the garage bug and fix, exactly? Was the bug that it didn’t save at all, but now it does, and saved cars still aren’t supposed to be reincarnated into the garage when you drive them off of mountain passes and into the ocean? Or are they supposed to always reappear in the garage no matter what you do?

If that’s the intention, it sure as heck ain’t working.

Right. But was it previously not saving them at all and now it does? I’ve never saved a vehicle successfully by either interpretation.

I’m not seeing anything to clarify this at all. Sorry about that; probably I should have just kept quiet.

In other news, I did enjoy playing GTA Online yesterday, having completed the game and:

“I picked C. Ain’t that a bitch?” No way could I kill Michael, and Trevor is just too damn hilarious.

There were a couple glitches with online play, but in general it works and is fun. I like that you can’t just ride around forever in a stolen car; the cops will notice eventually.

Are we serious about getting a SDMB crew together? I’m in, if so. (Zaparthes on PS3.)

Let’s set up a crew. I’ll do the paperwork tonight. For now: crew name nominations?

Los Santos Dopers seems too easy… but I like the acronym LSD

I hated that stupid mission. First of all because of how stupidly fast the truck towing the yacht was capable of going.

However, I think there are two levels of passing the mission. One is to save Franklin and get the yacht back. The other is saving Franklin but not getting the yach back. I saved Franklin but lost the yacht.

I don’t think anyone knows. I stole a super-car and it’s been in my garage ever since. I don’t know what would happen if I drove it into the ocean. I don’t think it would respawn in my garage.

My understanding is if you purchased it the car will always reappear in your garage even if its destroyed.

Hah! I like it!

How do you get the yacht back?

Yeah me too. Maybe I’ll go back and try to do better when I’m through all the missions.

Alrighty. “Lost Santos Dopers” was already taken, and “Cecil’s Angels” wasn’t allowed because of the apostrophe, so I just went with “The Straight Dopers.”

It’s an open crew, so just do a search for it on the Rockstar page and you should be able to join up. I think this should supercede the need to friend a whole bunch of new people to play with them, but I’m not sure.

I created a bunch of placeholder names for the 10 ranks, so feel free to generate suggestions and I’ll be happy to change them.

I joined up. Mayhem!

I joined - my handle is born2late - and played for a bit tonight. My first session was marred by a typical douche camped out by the spawn point, but I managed a couple missions and races later.

I’m in. <slaps cash on table>

When I searched for the crew, “The Straight Dopers” didn’t work, but “Straight Dopers” did.

I’m Bucket70 on there.
