I think the most expensive apartment is around $400,000. The first stimulus shot is $250,000. Have you been doing some more saving in anticipation?
Yeah, I currently have a bit more than 200k in the bank, so the first stimulus package will cover my apartment and the second will be funny money.
So, I finally got the game (PS3) on the weekend and have been having lots of fun (and little sleep) playing the single player. I haven’t so much as peeked at the online stuff, even though I used to play a lot of IV online. (Mostly races, and since they no longer allow the “Classic” controller configuration, my formerly l33t driving skills have been dulled considerably! :/)
It’s taken a lot of willpower, but I like the somewhat orderly progression of discovering stuff at my own pace in single player. I do my best to read the minimal amount of spoilerish stuff in this thread and elsewhere online, but one thing I keep hearing is this “stimulus money” stuff… So:
Is this whole “stimulus” deal something that I might miss out on if I don’t join in on the online fun soon? Should I get on there even if I don’t play, for now?
Also, I don’t imagine that my willpower will hold much longer, so if there’s anyone else who will also soon be popping their online cherry, maybe we can coordinate our initial forays, so as not to be forced to try to cooperate with randoms as we figure stuff out.
I think that it’s for anyone who logs on between now and the end of October.
Just to be on the safe side, create a Social Club account, link it to your PS3 account, join the SDMB crew, and make an online character. You won’t spoil the single-player game at all by hopping in and playing through the tutorial.
Yes - log in and play past the initial intro missions online by the end of October, and you should be eligible for the stimulus money. Won’t take you long, and then you won’t miss out.
EDIT: I don’t really think there’s anything spoiler-y in Online at all, actually. You’ll meet a few people you would meeting SP, but nothing more than that.
The wife’s out tonight, so anybody in the 360 Crew fancy a game?
Gosh, I feel like such a rebel…
Nothing spoiler-y, but I’m glad I played the single-player stuff first, because it’s a lot of fun doing “prequel” type stuff, like when you:
meet Martin Madrazzo(sp?) at the house that Michael destroys early in the story.
I’ve never been able to catch 360 crewmembers online; I am certainly willing to give it a try tonight (starting around 8pm Eastern).
What is the best method? Start a Crew-only session, or the option to join a crew member (or something like that…not sure of the exact wording of that option)?
Cumbrian, myself, and a friend of mine had a great time exploding jets and stealing oil tankers tonight! Good stuff.
Yeah, agreed - thoroughly enjoyed it - though the time zone I am in isn’t that helpful sometimes. Having a headset makes a big difference, especially being able to plan things on the fly. Also, I have definitely got to the point where soloing these missions is very difficult, so getting together with people makes a big difference.
Rockstar should accelerate some of the content now though, I think. We’re getting to the point where there are plenty of people around at reasonably high levels. Heists would be pretty cool.
I’m in that same boat. I’ve run into several missions that I just can’t do by myself, and random folks tend to just run amuck and not stay focused on the task that needs to get done. A mic is definitely a must once you start getting into the level 40-ish missions.
I’ve just recently started on the online (PS3) and am level 12ish. I’m seeing what you all mean about the difficulty of solo’ing some of the missions, and finding non flakey random people to coop with isn’t much easier. I don’t have a gaming headset, but does anybody know if there’s a way to use the bluetooth headset for my cell phone? I paired it with my PS3, but I don’t see any way of setting it up with the game. I’ve never been enthusiastic about incorporating voice into gaming, but I can see how helpful it’d be. If the phone’s BT will work, I’ll do that… dunno about getting a whole gaming-dedicated dealio, though.
Also, is there some sort of SDMB crew going on, or is it pretty much defunct? I needs me some wingmen! (Or at least some clean racers to compete against… yeesh!)
If you’ve managed to successfully set up your bluetooth with your PS3, it should work with the game just fine. Make sure the headset is on before you load the game.
The PS3 won’t put any game audio over the bluetooth - only voice chat.
The SDMB crew is linked to upthread. You have to create a Rockstar Social Club account, link your PS3 account to it, and then join the crew. When you’re in the game you can ask it to put you into games that also have crew members in it, if there are any around. We’ve only got 20-something people in the crew so a lot of times there won’t be anybody.
The PS3 crew is definitely happening, but being a small crew you might not see anyone on, depending on the time of day. I myself have been ludicrously busy the past week and haven’t been on much except a bit in the afternoon or early evening, occasionally.
Played the Base Invaders mission from Ron last night with a friend and it paid out pretty good - $25K. I read somewhere that you get double if it’s your first time completing the mission, so subsequent plays only get 12,500.
Call of Modern Ops: Black Warfare 49 comes out today, so my participation in GTA will taper off significantly until they implement heists.
Great stuff from Volt tonight, basically carrying my sorry ass through that mission where you need to destroy three lasers and nick a chopper. I am not a COD player, so will likely still be around on PS3 for at least a while yet, trying to unlock later missions. Hopefully heists will be brought online soon though. I finally scraped the money together for an apartment and ten car garage and want to get some use out of the planning space.
Yeah, that was pretty fun… but you held your own. It would’ve been a lot easier and we probably would have died much less if my Bluetooth had been working and we were better able to coordinate. It worked after I reset, I just had to have had it turned on before starting the game, as I think someone had advised me previously. :smack:
BTW, for future reference, you can send text messages in-game by pulling up the player in the “Contacts” on your phone. That’s a lot easier than going out to the PSN messaging system, and a good chunk of the beginning of the message pops up just like a text from an NPC, so that the person receiving it can read at least some of it without having to manually pull anything up.
Anyway, I hope to see a lot more Dopers in game! There are tons of missions I haven’t been able to do for lack of anybody to team up with. If anyone reading this is on PS3 and hasn’t signed up, here’s the link to the crew. If you’re already in the crew, then where the hell are you all!? Come on bitches, let’s fight some ignorants! ![]()
Here’s a quick tip for some 100k~ an hour of cash plus some decent RP Solo.
- Host the mission “Potshot” (Rank 25 required)
- Set it to easy. (After you get used to the mission, set it on Hard for more RP)
- Use a stocky vehicle to run over the gang members and block the bridge in front of the drug house. (I use my Sheriff SUV) Block the bridge with said vehicle.
- When the drug van comes, shoot the driver and take the van to Trevor’s trailer.
- Rinse and repeat.
This mission is repeatable for $7k and several hundred RP. (To repeat a mission press X for 360 or Square for PS3)
My virtual spinster Aunt in Liberty City died, leaving me $500,000! Or something. So I’ve bought the 10 car condo nearest the airport, with views of a building site.
My concern is that the vast majority of GTA online players will have presumably bought one of the three ‘heist-ready’ 10-car flats. So it will be very easy for the usual psycho-tween suspects to stake out one of the three front doors (say, with a sniper rifle in a building site) and feast themselves on headshots.
So I’m not going to respawn at the flat, or even visit much. I’m too paranoid to go home.
