Grant Morrison's work on New Xmen

I was just wondering who here had been keeping up on the latest rethinking of the X-men. While not every story has been as coherent or slow-paced as I’d like, I’ve generally liked what he’s done with the book. Others, though complain that he does too much that seems to be obviously straining to be hip and outrageous. While there’s certainly some of that (everyone telling Wolvie his real name just to show how cool and deep they are), I don’t think it’s really all that bad.

The art in the books has been pretty uneven, of course…

I’ve liked the new issues of x-men that I’ve seen. The story arcs are shorter and easier to pick up. There were also some extrapolations on the mutant powers that I liked. Something more then just the standard ‘hit him with energy beam’ stuff.

JEAN: How’d you get to be such a bitch, Emma?
EMMA: Breeding. Top class breeding.

I think there was a bit of a slump around the Imperial storyline – and it wasn’t helped by the rotating pencillers – but he got his stride back around the Phantomex storyline and it’s been pretty good since. It’s not as good as either of his two prior magnum opuses, JLA and Invisibles, nor is it I think as strong as The Filth, but that is so fragile it could collapse with a few poor issues here at the end.

I thought “Murder at the Mansion” was a great storyline. I particularly liked Dr. McCoy telling Bishop why he liked Emma.
