Grapeseed Oil

A local store is selling grapeseed oil for about six bucks for a 750 mL bottle. That seems to be a fairly good price. Is it? Other than the fact that it has a relatively high smoke point, I don’t know much about it. I though about buying some today just because I have never had any before. What could I do with it that I couldn’t do with canola oil, olive oil, or lard? Should I buy it?

(While I was typing this post I began thinking that it is a good thing the Canadians invented the word “canola.” Can you imagine being the poor marketing guy who would have had to sell a product called rape oil? Maybe there is a niche market for something like that.)

I know it’s usually expensive.
Lots of people use it to season cast iron.

I’m alittle too cheap to spend that kinda money on oil. I’d rather have olive oil.

I fork out big buck$ for Son-of-a-wreks fish frying. Peanut oil for his big outdoor fryer contraption is very expensive. You must have peanut oil. It’s like a ‘law’ or something.

In the UK it’s known as rapeseed oil instead of canola. I thought “grapeseed” was a typo until looking it up. A national supermarket has grapeseed for £0.57/100ml.
