It’s obvious once you point it out. :smack: Not a very horrifying picture though. The Thai cigarette pack photos are what I would call terrifying.
I think they’re going for a mix of making you feel horrible and making you feel ridiculous about your the habit of smoking, and letting whichever of the two (or both) work on you.
I know when I quit in '91, it was a combination of (i) just joining the gym, (ii) being sick of the smell, (iii) cost had just gone up, (iv) tired of having to go outside in the cold 'cause my firm had just gone entirely smoke-free (no smoking in stairwells, behind closed office doors, etc.), and (v) feeling ridiculous about putting my clothes back on to go out before bedtime to make sure I had a pack for when I woke up in the morning.
Because we know how well this tactic is received when anti-choice advocates use graphic posters to get their message across.
But I guess it’s ok now, the government is doing it.
I think it’s fine, especially considering it is in part an effort to undo years of misleading advertising by the manufacturers.
However, I laughed at the guy in the stroke and heart disease picture - he looks like he’s simultaneously having a stroke *and *a heart attack, and for some reason it makes me giggle.
