Grazing in the Grass

A recent (maybe ongoing?) series of VH1 ads used pieces of a version of “Grazing in the Grass,” specifically the “I can dig it, he can dig it, we can dig it, can you dig it?” bit. I’ve looked on the Apple Music Store, but based on the clips they give, I don’t hear one I recognize. Does anybody know which version of the song was used?

I haven’t seen the ads you’re talking about, but if it’s not the Friends of Distinction, possibly it’s Sixth Wave?

Maybe the Friends of Distinction?

The one in the VH1 ad is Friends of Distinction. The original by Hugh Masekela is just as good but it doesn’t have any words so there’s no I can dig it, he can dig it, she can dig it on it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think I’ve found it on VH1’s site, but there’s no indication there of who the artist is. It sounds a lot like the Friends of Distinction version that ccwaterback linked to, so I guess that’s the one.

I just remembered its being “bigger,” like a bunch of 70’s soul bands got together and exploded. Maybe it was all the video…

Yeah that was back in the “Hair” era (the musical play). Lots of black Mama’s and Papa’s kinda groups back then. Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?
