A friend of mine is having lots of trouble with her teenage daughter and I thought I would find her a book that may help her understand that things aren’t as bleak as they seem. Well what a fertile source of great titles:
Get Out of My Life, but First Could You Drive Me & Cheryl to the Mall by Anthony E. Wolf
When We’re In Public, Pretend You Don’t Know Me by Susan Borowitz
Boys Will Put You on a Pedestal (So They Can Look Up Your Skirt) by Philip Van Munching
Yes, Your Teen is Crazy! by Michael J. Bradley
but I ended up with the tamer:
I’m Not Mad, I Just Hate You! by Roni Cohen-Sandler
Can any other category offer such inventive titles?
I’ve had one for a number of years. It’s for a younger age-group but…
You Think Just Because You’re Big You’re Right by Albert Cullum is written for adults but from a child’s point-of-view.
To pick a page at random;
There’s a picture of a child’s party, playing pin-the-tail and one little girl standing off to the side alone.
The opposite page says:
Who asked her to surprise me?
Who asked her to invite them all -
all the kids in my class?
It was my birthday.
Who asked her to ask all those kids
that call me names?
She doesn’t even know
they call me names.
One of those kids that call me names
ate three cupcakes.
