Great harmonies in song

Don’t know if we’ve done this before or not. Thinking about Art Neville’s death yesterday, my mind wandered a bit and I remembered Aaron Neville’s collaboration with Linda Ronstadt on Don’t Know Much, which was fairly jaw-dropping for me when it first came out.

That led me down the mental path to the Ronstadt-Harris-Parton 3-part harmony on the remake of the old classic Mr. Sandman, which in turn let me to the 4-part harmony of The Chordettes on the same tune.

There have been scads of great duets from The Everlys to Simon & Garfunkle, of course.

Feel free to post your favorite duet numbers, but what have you got in the three and four part harmony realm?

“Keep On Trying” - Poco
“Because” - Beatles

“If I Fell” - Beatles

“Seven Bridges Road” - Eagles

Anything by the Mamas and the Papas

The Staves - Tired As Fuck

Anything by The Roches

Here’s the Flying Pickets doing all the singing and all the instruments in harmony.

The Nylons - Dream

Blue Öyster Cult - Don’t fear the Reaper.

One Toke Over The Line - Brewer & Shipley

Crosby Stills & Nash, Find the Cost of Freedom
(jump to the nice harmony part for the impatient)

The Roches, On the Road to Fairfax County
(jump to the nice harmony…)

Queen (somebody named Freddy Mercury harmonizing with Freddy Mercury several times over): The Prophet’s Song
(jump…)

Steeleye Span, “The Weaver and the Factory Maid”

especially from 4:25 to the end

Good one. They had a lot of good ones.

Another real oldie by the Andrews Sisters.

To this day, I’m still astonished how well done that is. It’s just an echo chamber with two repeats. :smack: (It’s really probably some kind of tape splice trick.)

Especially here.

Perhaps best known for gospel and other religious music some 75 years ago, the Golden Gate Quartet also recorded more secular songs such as “Atom and Evil”.

Agree completely.

Bobtown also has some great harmonies.

^ Very nice! I really dig those glasses on far-right girl. And a Danelectro bass? Righteous!!
