Many great quotes are recorded and repeated, and become proverbs. But oftentimes, I come across great lines from regular old newspaper/magazine stories, columns, editorials or essays. These are possibly forgotten forever. I thought I’d start a list here. Please add your own. I wish I had begun this earlier, because I was noticing funny and witty lines in articles for ages, and never thought to record them. Links to the actual article would be preferable.
Recently, I was reading David Carr’s story in NYT about his former drug addiction, and read some great lines:

“When a memory is called to answer, it often answers back with deception.”
“How is it that almost every warm bar stool contains a hero, a star of his own epic, who is the sum of his amazing stories?”
“We tell ourselves that we lie to protect others, but the self usually comes out looking damn good in the process.”
