Great song but terrible music video

I nominate “Don’t Look Any Further” by Dennis Edwards featuring Sideah Garrett.

I really love the song. But the video reminds me of those low-budget videos you could get made at the typical 1980s mall. Don’t front like you don’t know what I’m talking about! You know good and well at one time you were willing to pay $19.99 so you and your friends could be recorded play-acting like you were in a band, big hair and all. I know I’m not the only one that remembers that being a thing. Every time I see the video to “Don’t Look Any Further”, I’m transported to that acid-washed, Jheri curl activator-scented era of Americana. It was an innocent time, when people weren’t afraid to be cringy.

I actually love the video, not gonna lie. But it is really bad!

What are some other picks?

The decent song but embarrassing video by Billy Squier that ruined his career.

Oh, and Kiss by Prince. Great song but uncomfortable video.

Rush - “Time Stand Still”

More a “pretty good” song than great, but this video is the definition of “screw our record company”
Bastards of Young, the Replacements

I came here to say 98% of Rush’s videos.

In a Big Country, by Big Country

Everybody Wants to Rule the World, by Tears for Fears

Same answer as before, and before that. Shadows of the Night by Pat Benatar. Nazis, air combat, the usual Benatar stuff.

I have a lot of compassion for people who can’t dance but do it anyway. But I can’t summon up any for this guy. WTF.

True Faith by New Order

Ok, the Billy Squier is the quintessential example of a bad, BAD video, but what’s “uncomfortable” about Kiss:confused:

Journey - Seperate Ways

Saxon - Power And The Glory. Cool song. Embarrassingly bad video.

Sonic Youth - Star Power. Love the song. But the video is nothing more than a pendulum swinging back and forth. Perhaps it’s not an official video by them.

Prince dancing around in that goofy outfit. And time and place. It wouldnt be so uncomfortable today but still out of the mainstream for a straight male.

Still a catchy tune but these guys can’t even seem to lip-sync a two word song.
Yello-Oh Yeah

I think you’ve got it twisted. A short, effeminate, high heel-wearing, horsey-faced black man with a press-and-curl has no niche in today’s market. He wouldn’t last a minute today. Only in the 80s could such a person make it big.

“Goofy” is a matter of opinion, I guess. I think he looked good in everything he wore, including those buttless pants. But his look was one that only he could really pull off.

Bingo! I think he looks damn sexy in that video; it’s classic Prince.

I really dont disagree with what you said but his unusual fashion sense took away from the enormous amount of talent he had; a talent that sans fashion would transcend basically any time and place. I was speaking as a straight male. I have always thought that the effeminatness(?) was a conceit. He was brilliant across genres. He really should have been the greatest musician of his era.

He was the greatest musician of his era. His personality (conceit or not) only promoted his image. It didn’t detract from it at all.

At any rate, rock stars aren’t known for dressing like the archetypal straight male. If Prince had come out on the stage wearing polo shirts and Dockers, I doubt any of us would even know his name.
