Ghost Busters was unrelated to the movie - it was based on a Filmation TV series from the 70s (they kept the adaptation of the movie from using the title).
The Real Ghostbusters (so named because of the Filmation version) did, in fact, use the movie’s theme.
I know that it isn’t cool to tell people how to post but, terentii and furryman, if you could please post at least a little commentary with your lists of links? I like it when a thread feels like a conversation.
General comment for now: Each one of the themes I’ve posted brings back very specific memories. I also consider each one to be a fine piece of music in its own right. I would get goosebumps listening to The Honeymooners even if I had never seen the TV series.
My commentary… When I was 12 I had a portable reel to reel tape recorder. I recorded every single TV theme song (1966-68) I could on a series of 3" reels. I still have one of the tapes in a box in storage someplace.
Soul Eater’s first op, Resonance (obligatory full version), and second, PAPERMOON (full version) are both brilliant. I actually only watched Soul Eater because I’m a fan of Tommy heavenly[sup]6[/sup], who performed PAPERMOON…but ended up liking Resonance better. The ‘Mickey Mousing’ in the actual OP sequence for Resonance with Death, Medusa, and Excalibur dancing really helps the appreciation. (Especially Medusa’s bit.)
The 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime’s second OP, Ready Steady Go (full), and its fourth, Rewrite (full)…I admit it took a few episodes for Rewrite to grow on me, but since it’s the only one other than RSG that I’m reccing… That said, Rewrite, like Utsukushikereba Sore De Ii, I prefer the TV size, as there’s a differently styled break near the end that doesn’t work as well. (Contrary to USDI, it’s moving away from rock.)
The 2009 version, Brotherhood, started with the rocking Again (full), and honestly, none of the four that came after really came up to that standard, but the third, Golden Time Lover (full) was a worthy followup…more electronic, and verging more toward funk than rock, but still good.
Well, if we’re going to include reusing songs, then you have to consider The Texas Wheelers. Not even Weeds dared to have a theme song about smoking pot. And check out the credits – some surprising names.
Speaking of Weeds, they did nicely with Little Boxes
I could write a paragraph (or more) on each theme I’ve posted, but (a) I’m short of time right now and (b) most of them have some basic information (e.g., year(s), genre, cast) to help you appreciate them.
I wouldn’t want to bore you in any case, but any questions you may have I will be happy to answer when time allows.
