For that matter, most of the stuff John McLaughlin did with Shakti was simply amazing.
Clap by Steve Howe.
And the previously mentioned Mood For a Day.
St. Louis Tickle by Dave Van Ronk
Blue Moon by Tommy Emmanuel
That’s the one I came in here to mention.
OO OOO just found one of my favorites. Of course it would be on YouTube.
Midsummers Daydream by Rik Emmett of Triumph.
What, a mention of Pink Floyd and no Mother? Or Wish You Were Here? Blasphemy!! grin
Needle and the Damage Done by Neil Young, simple perfection.
Led Zeppelin’s totally-acoustic version of Gallows Pole. More power and energy than nearly all non-acoustic songs and leagues more than any non-dance acoustic song.
On Romeo and Juliet, by Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler frets and finger-picks on a resonator guitar throughout. I think it’s beautiful.
I third RT’s “Vincent Black Lightning,” and throw in “Beeswing” and his live solo record from the 80s, especially “Honky Tonk Blues.”
These all have a huge number of plays on my iPod:
Pierre Bensusan, “The Pure Drop/Flax in Bloom”
Leo Kottke, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Snorkel”
Allman Brothers, “Little Martha”
Dave Van Ronk, “Antelope Rag,” “Maple Leaf Rag”
John Fahey, “Om Shanti Norris”
Dennis Kamakahi, “Ulili E”
Russ Barenberg (with Jerry Douglas & Edgar Meyer), “Big Bug Shuffle”
Jefferson Airplane (ie, Jorma Kaukonen), “Embryonic Journey”
There are two types, in my lil opinion, that are seperate enough for me to have different categories.
**Pickin’: **
“Chet Baker’s Unsung Swansong” David Wilcox
Norwegian Wood The Beatles
Cupid and Psycho John Wesley Harding
Strummin’:
“Oblivious” Aztec Camera (really fun to play along with)
*“Your Next Bold Move” * Ani DiFranco
No Such Thing John Mayer (very different chords which make it a welcome “standard tuning” break)
I’m curious to know if you acoustic fans are familiar with Willy Porter?
I prefer the studio version of that song, but it is interesting to watch him play.
I’m a little late to this party, but I heartily second these nominations:
Randy Rhoads’ “Dee”
Extreme’s “Hole Hearted”
Heart’s intro to “Crazy on You”
I’ll add the following to the discussion:
The Gypsy Kings’ cover of “Hotel California”
Tuck and Patty’s cover of “Time After Time”
Robert Plant’s “Ship of Fools”
Andy McKee - Drifting

This blew me away. It still does, actually.
Hi, Neighbor: you would probably like Scott Huckabay.
And add to that Hot Tuna’s “The Water Song.” True it has electric bass, and it’s a bit circular, but it’s beautifu;
And I forgot to add Rory Gallagher’s Barley and Grape Rag. It’s rough and ready.
Keller Williams has tons, but the song Roshambo blows my mind every time I hear it. It’s track 11 on this show from the Internet Archive. The man must piss out musical talent.
Another vote for Tommy Emmanuel
Plus a couple more names I haven’t seen mentioned yet:
Ottmar Liebert
Tony Rice (either on his own or as part of the David Grisman Quintet)
