Greatest "intervention" scene ever: Sopranos 11/17 (spoilers)

Now, did anyone catch Uncle Junior’s demeanor? He was very articulate and straight-forward when he was telling Tony that junkies have to be “put out of their misery”. I was just on the edge of thinking, “See, he’s okay,” but I didn’t quite let myself embrace the idea. Sure enough, after saying that, he looks away, and when Tony wants to toast, he looks back in apparent confusion as to why he (Junior) has a glass in his hand. “OMG,” I said at the time. “He is losing it.”

As for Silvio, y’all may be right about his betrayal of Tony. All I know is, I loved it when the intervention was already getting out of control, but he went ahead and read his notes anyway, like the good little bulldog he is.

And Christopher calling his mother a whore?! There goes my sympathy for him. And as far as the dog…well, all I can think of is Adriana breaking down when she told the group. I don’t care much for toy dogs myself, but Cosette meant a lot to Adriana. And anyway, that’s an indicator: that’s what junkies do. They leave the oven on and burn down the kitchen; they lose track of their kid at the playground; they nod off and forget that their boss asked them to call back in five minutes…

Everyone’s talking of whoever’s betrayal of Tony when in fact, it’s Tony that’s betraying them by whacking someone over a horse. That’s the issue these guys are facing. Their boss is a loose cannon.

I can’t see Silvio betraying Tony. I don’t know who it will be, but it won’t be Silvio.

The feds aren’t going to get much out of Adriana while Christopher is in rehab.

I think more interventions could use a few wise guys telling the addict to sit down and shut up. I loved Silvio’s little statement. Steven Van Zandt is one of the most under rated actors on the show. He’s like a cartoon of a mobster. he’s perfect.

I’m not going to disagree with you per se on that, but I will say that as soon as I saw that dog at the beginning of the season, I said to myself, “That dog’s got no future.” To me, Cosette has been the most ham-handed plot device on this show since Dr. Melfi started taking a wee nip between patients.

I don’t think any of the above candidates would rat but who knows. Carmella, on the other hand, has had it. Then again, she doesn’t really know anything.

Interesting to see the Russian woman again. Strange that Junior would hire her after she supposedly stole stuff from Tony & janice’s mother. if I remember, she had some of her friends rough up Janice and Tony then got back at them. Something like that. Did Tony just forget about all that?

And what the hell happened with the Russian guy who got away at the end of last season? At least someone finally mentioned it in the last episode, but I thought that was going to be a big to do.

Tony’s reaction to hearing about the dog is related to the death of the horse. He has that anger boiling within him and it doesn’t take much to bring it back to the surface. Anything remotely animal death related.

Obviously Svetlana cannot be a stoolie. After all, she knows Junior is faking it, can tell the feds that, and get the trial going again. Obviously not a stoolie. Therefore she has to be. Which is why she turns down continuing with Tony. She already has one mobster she’s working.

Didn’t the Soprano’s used to have another kid? Maybe a daughter? With a name like “Field” or “Pasture” or some such?

Note that Paulie is the most phobic of people with mental health problems. Ergo, he’s the one with the most psych. problems.

Tony and Janice have another sister. She’s been in a few episodes.

I think ftg is talking about the MIA Meadow. Tony and Janice’s sister is Barbara, if I recall correctly.

Do you mean Maedo?

So did Johnny Sack find out about the HUD deal in Newark? Was it Zellman? And how come Carmine doesn’t know? I’m thinking about how Paulie told Johnny about some deal in Newark that he overheard Ralphie and Tony talking about. Johnny, being the smart mobster that he is, probably went straight to Zellman.

I think that it’s very smart for Tony to blame Johnny for Ralphie’s murder. Everyone knows that Johnny and Ralphie had some bad blood. But what complicates things is that a couple of the other guys already know that Paulie must’ve told Johnny about the Ralphie’s “mole removal” comment. Ralph figured out that Little Paulie told Paulie whe he was in jail.

So now things are getting really good. Does someone tell Tony that Paulie is leaking info to Johnny? Does Zellman get whacked? Does Johnny get whacked? Does Chris sing? And what about Patsy Parisi? He knows deep down that Tony had his brother Philly killed? Perhaps ratting Tony out would be the perfect revenge.

By the way, while Tony runs NJ independently, he must still give Carmine a cut on the action. Carmine’s family is so big that he could easily move in to NJ and give Tony lots of competition. But it seems Tony has had enough of getting squeezed by Carmine…

As I said, things are getting good.

Paulie told Johnny about the HUD scheme during their lunch at the restaurant with the gorgeous view of the (Brooklyn, GW?) Bridge and Manhattan a few episodes back. Paulie didn’t mention what the scheme was, just that Tony was using Zellman to make money in real estate again.

Back at the beginning of the season the NY crew had rights to money from the previous real estate job because it was related to the Newark Esplanade, in which the two groups are sharing the wealth. I don’t believe the NY crew has any other rights to tax on Zellman’s influence, after all, he is a New Jersey Assemblyman.

I think it comes down to Johnny trying to make his way into the business on the Jersey side, despite his earlier claims that he “wouldn’t put his beak in” after his move from NY to Jersey last season (or was it the season prior…).

Patsy IS wired. Remember the show where Patsy took a leak in Tony’s pool? Later that episode he was sitting in the car with a fed who asked Patsy if he had a problem wearing a wire to some event. Patsy just shrugged and said he needed fresh batteries.

Also, Patsy is not a capo. He was a member of Junior’s crew, but was moved over to be directly under Tony so that they could keep an eye on him after they had his twin brother, Beansie, clipped.

That wasn’t Patsy, Smitty.

And Patsy’s dead brother was Philly, not Beansie – Beansie was the guy Richie ran over with his SUV in season 2.

Tony: “I thought I told you to back off Beansie!”
Richie: “I did. Then I put it in drive.”

I don’t remember her stealing anything. What happened was, Livia had some vintage records, probably 78s, and bequeathed them to Svetlana. Janice insisted that they were hers, and when Svetlana refused to give them up, Janice stole Svetlana’s leg. That’s why Janice was roughed up. If anything, I think Tony was impressed by the way Svetlana didn’t put up with Janice’s bullshit.

I must say that the first several weeks of this season left me very unimpressed. Starting last week, and now this episode (I just saw the new episode now)…wow! This is what I have been expecting – things are really picking up.
I do not believe that Junior could be the rat, he is too old school in his methodology. I also don’t believe that it’s going to be Christopher – just too obvious. I’m leaning towards some crazy triange with Tony, Carmella, and Furio. Who knows? It’s what makes this show so great, even though I was doubting it for a few weeks.

And, yes, Tony
Also, I may have missed the thread from last week, but I am so glad that Ralphie is dead. I hated his character.

Sigh, you can thank my dog for jumping into my lap and me trying to catch the keyboard and hitting “enter” for the mid sentence cutoff in my last post. Everyone: “Thanks, Zoe the wonder hound”. Anyway…I was just going to say:

And yes, Tony is going to go BATSHIT on Paulie if/when he sees that painting of himself that Paulie had touched up to include the Napoleon threads. I actually laughed out loud when Paulie hung that up.
