"Greek" returns tonight on ABC Family

Greek is a surprisingly good little show on ABC Family, starting up its second season tonight. It follows a geeky college freshman who goes to the same school as his sister, a junior. It could quite easily have been completely lame but the stories are good, the acting is decent and the characters are well done. Definitely worth a look if you didn’t tune in last season.

Upon previews, Greek looked like a show I was going to completely hate, seeing how anti-frat I am. However, the show turned out to be more anti-frat than pro-frat, so I ended up enjoying it afterall. Thanks for the heads up.

Sadly, the sound on ABC Family is not working for me. Except on commercials of course. I’m hoping it will be fixed by tomorrow’s repeat; I hate watching TV shows online.

I can’t say as I see the show as anti-frat. The Kappas are a frat after all and they’re good guys. Even some of the other main frat are pretty decent, except of course for their wholesale rejection of the gay pledge.

Really enjoyed this show over the summer and had been looking to this. Was quite disappointed. Seemed like they really didn’t have enough material for a full hour. Of course that gave plenty of air-time to their house band (one of my golf buddies is one of the guitarist’s uncle.)

Hope they get some interesting story lines going, or I won’t be watching too much longer.

I enjoyed it. (1) They kept the plotlines going, and consistent from the previous year. (2) They had believable reactions to most stuff, i.e. the shunning, the house situations, etc.

I also enjoy how they don’t have everything as black and white. Some of the greeks are idiots, some are truly caring people. Some of the normal students are jerks, some are very nice. They had some of the frat boys concerned about being hit on by the gay guy, but a good portion just upset that he’d LIED to them for so long.

I find it to be a funny, mostly-believeable show that is relatively funny and harmless.

My favorite part was when the “other” gay guy said he had something he “needed to talk about” and came out, and his frat brothers said something like, “What a relief. We thought you had learned about this guy hitting on your younger sister! Come on, let’s play some pool.”

Reminded me of when our neighbors invited us to a New Year’s party. At some point they pulled the “we have something to talk about” line and asked my wife and me if we’d be comfortable if she were the only biological female there. We responded, “Thank god you’re gay. We were afraid you’d say you were Republicans!”

Solid start to the new season, says I. I concur that the gay fratboy issue has been handled very realistically.

Yeah, I gotta hand it to them on that part of the storyline.

It would’ve been easy for them to just bash the dude and phase out the character, but leaving him in to deal with the rest of the students and situations that will arise, is pretty cool…
