I’m going to Green Bay for a week with work at the end of June. Any recommendations as to where to eat? Will be staying on Lombardi Avenue. What’s the weather like at this time of year?
Since nobody else is biting & I lived there in the late 90’s for a while. If it’s still there and you like pancakes go to a restaurant called “The Pancake Place”. A google search shows that they’re still in operation. There was always a line outside the door to get in which is as good a measure as any for it’s general quality. It’s not far or difficult to get to from where you’re staying either. It’s on Military and Shawano, Shawano being one of the major streets through the city.
If you follow Shawano Ave toward downtown there was a Mexican place called Taco Burrito Mexico which I recall being quite good. There was also a mexican place called Maria’s which a Google search reveals may have moved several times from it’s original downtown location. I have no idea how much either of these places may have changed over the last 15 or so years since I’ve lived there. Even in the 90’s there was a fairly significant Mexican population downtown. I can only imagine it’s expanded since then.
Kroll’s is one of those places that’s been around forever they specialize in burgers. They have a nice website here with directions and locations one of which is on or near Lombardi.
Also the weather this time of year is typically quite nice. It can be balmy but Green bay is moderated in it’s climate since it is off the lake.
It’s been many, many years since I lived there, but do try Kroll’s. There used to be a better place that did the butter burger thing called The Right Place but it might have closed because I can’t find it on the web. River’s Bend is great for perch but Friday’s will be crazy. It used to be all about the supper clubs, and I hear it still is. I’d stay away from mexican. See if you can find a place that sells pasties, short a. They’re a meat and potato pie. They’re more of a UP thing though.
And try checking out Bay Beach for a bit of fun. Try the giant slide!
Thanks guys.
Weather wise we’ve been in flux in Wisconsin. It’s been cold most of the spring and upper Wisconsin hadn’t even leafed out the trees a week and a half ago. The last week in central Wisconsin the temps have hit the 90’s jumping us 45F. Always take layers of clothes and a coat for the area, as it could be hot or very cold on any day in a normal year that far north and close to the Great Lakes. Places to eat I leave to others.
Been a while since I spent any time there, so I didn’t reply right away but seeing as you’re not getting any locals to answer, here’s my input.
We always like Titletown Brewery. Decent bar-type food, decent beer, kinda fun atmosphere. Feels very Green Bay.
Across the street is Hinterland Brewing. More upscale, but they do have a lounge with less fancy stuff. I remember really liking their food, but it’s been several years since I was there.
I have friends/family who swear by Victoria’s Italian, but I’ve never been there myself. Looks like upper midwest Italian, not Italian Italian. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you’re not expecting real Italian.
Thanks.
I will only be in town for 4 nights unfortunately, Monday - Thu, but will have a look at everyones suggestions and try what I can.
I notice noone’s mentioned a certain quarterback’s steak house. So I won’t either.
I wonder where Aaron Rodgers likes to eat in Green Bay?
Last time I ate in Green Bay, it was at the Green Bay Correctional Institution. The tacos were not bad.
My boss mentioned that one, is the Steve Favre steakhouse not all that then?
dammit, missed the edit window Brett Favre of course.
I’ll never forget Brent.
I’ve heard that restaurant is a nice one. It’s just not the draw it once was.
off tomorrow! I have jaffa cakes, milk choc hob nobs and dark choc hob nobs.
