"Green Dimes" Junk Mail Reduction service- does it work?

I put so much junk mail in the recycling bin and have always wondered if there was a way to make it stop.

Today I found this site called Green Dimes that claims your junk mail can be reduced up to 90% by joining. I think it costs $15 and they say 10 trees will also be planted in my name.

Anyone signed up for this and had positive results i.e. hugely reduced junk mail?

Do it yourself for nearly free: http://www.stopjunkmail.org/resident.htm

As far as I can tell, all GreenDimes does is generate the letters for you to mail (with your own stamps) to the mailing associations.

Yes, it looks like the link you provided does nearly the same thing without the $15 fee. I think it’s hysterical that I must pay Direct Marketing Association $1 to keep them from sending me mail (let’s hope they actually will stop). That’s some nerve.

OK now I realize that they don’t send me mail. They just help me keep from getting mail. I’ll pay $1 for that.

My credit card kept sending me blank checks, for cash advances; they all went right to the shredder. So I called the customer service number on the back of the card. I told the surprised CS lady I never used the checks and didn’t want any more. She agreed to quit.

I hope she finds a new job soon. :frowning:

Both of my credit card took about three or four calls over a year or two to get them to stop. My big problem with them is, it’s like getting checks in the mail you didn’t realize where coming. If I go an order checks and they don’t show up, I know something’s wrong. If my courtesy checks get stolen, I’ll never know it.
