Greetings from Prague!

Hi everybody!

We’re sitting at the computer room of the USBSP (US Business School Prague), where TomCat goes to school. We’re having a great time so far. The city is absolutely spectacular, the beer is even better, and we just had a traditional Czech lunch called “Chicken Quesedilla” or something.

Let’s see if any of the other posters here have anything to say?

Oh, and this thread is brought to you by the phrase “Swim in your pants”. Long story, but we hear it’s the Czech slang version of “Bust a move”.

Who all’s there at the moment?

Things are thinning out a bit. Wolfstu left for the railway station about an hour ago, and both mkl12 and Robot Arm just went home as well. So right now, it’s just TomCat, Heloise and me. But we’ll meet up with kferr and curly chick later, and maybe also with Maastricht and her boyfriend (not a doper).

We’re leaving tomorrow morning, so one more night of Prague Pubbing ahead of us!

I wish I’d been able to make it. Another time perhaps.

No no no…that was “Swim in MY pants.” Like I said, Czechs are an affectionate bunch

Seriously, it has been fun. Good talks, food and, of course, beer. The historical sights were nice too, something to do in between being social.

Thanks to all who were here, I had a great time!

Must check out what else is going on elsewhere…take care!

-Tcat

One of my relatives lives in Prague, Oklahoma, so I’ve been having a great time telling them that I’m in the other Prague. Pronounced quite differently and with a very different set of people. For one thing, no blue laws!

The very strange thing is, it would seem there aren’t many, um, people of color here. I keep getting stares from people and the one black girl I had a chance to talk with said the same thing has been happening to her. It’s a little disconcerting.

But all in all, “Good living, good living!”

I just got home half an hour ago. It took me a little longer than I expectet, the traffic was bad.

Thank you very much everybody, I had a great time. Prague is beautiful and I really enjoyed meeting all of you.

Ahoj!

And I just got home, too. Actually, I just got to work - I took the night train, so I didn’t really have time to go home.

Thanks everyone for coming, and particularly to Tomcat for arranging things, Coldfire and Heloise for the ride, and just about everyone for lending me koruna before I could get to a bankomat.
And believe me, I’m swimming in my pants over here. Excellent weekend.

Ah ha! I knew the Czechs were all pirates pretending to be Southeastern Europeans to steal the booty from the Alps!

Given some of the pants I see people who would bust their moves wearing, this isn’t quite as bizarre as it could be.

A guy could drown in proper move-busting pants.

I made it home in one piece, too. Thanks to all, and especially Tomcat, for a fantastic weekend.

That church decorated with human bones was… well, I hate to use the word ‘indescribable’, but nothing else really fits.

Tomcat, I understand why you were advising me on a different route to the train station. The way I went turned out to be the main shopping/tourist district, but it was still pretty cool. There’s a building just a block or two from your school (a hotel, I think) that’s absolutely beautiful. And what’s the building between the museum and the opera house? It looked governmental and very, very secure; so I’m guessing Treasury or central bank.

Gorgeous scenery on the trip home, at least as long as there was light for me to see it. I should find out which river valley that train line follows. The leaves were almost up to the standards of a New Englander, and the roads weren’t clogged with leaf-peepers from New York.

Had a pair of Czech police officers share my compartment on the train for a bit, then four German border guards. All packing.

Kinda sorry it was dark by the time we crossed the border. That particular line on the map has been the subject of much attention during my lifetime, I would have liked to see what all the fuss was about.

Maastricht, I’m sorry we missed that turn.

I’ve just made it home. Spent myself down to my last 17 koruna on beer at the airport. (65 kr for 0.3 litre! Robbery!) Had a great time meeting everyone and the fantastic eating and drinking. When’s the next one?

Maybe even ‘fantastical’!
Coldfire, did you see my camera at the Pension?

Prague was fantastic. Thanks very much to Tomcat for arranging the weekend and for all of his expert local knowledge (of pubs!!!)
And as well, Tomcat, it was really good of you to arrange such fantastic weather, I dunno how you did it, but well done.

Great to meet all of you in such a lovely place and all I want to know is - where are the photos? Coldfire, Wolfstu and Maastricht, I’m looking at you!

The next one… how about a DubDope somewhere in Spring?

We left Prague yesterday morning around 10 AM, after having breakfast with Maastricht and her boyfriend. Yes, they were still alive.
After unsuccesfully trying to get our way out of Prague in a general North-West direction, we finally caved and bought a map at a gas station. We then realised that following the signs saying “Teplice” (as Heloise suggested all along) would have been wise, as it is the border town on the road towards Dresden. :smack:

Dresden itself was beautiful, even if we only drove through it. A very interesting un-German experience: right before Dresden, they invite you on to this highway towards Chemnitz (where we were headed!), and when you get on it, you learn that it ends after 5 km’s. You turn around, and return to where you entered it, which is incidently the other end of the highway as it is. Huh? This is Germany??
Anyway, after a rather confusing but beautiful trip through Dresden, we found the 4 highway towards Leipzig und so weiter. We stopped for a piece of rubbery schnitzel with an approximation of Jäger-sauce, at a Raststätte somewhere around Osnabrück. We were able to get most of our food in before a Dutch bus with loud tourists completely swamped the place.

(Discussion point: is it everywhere in the world that only drunken youngsters, the elderly, and/or complete lowlifes take bus holidays? Heloise and I seemed to agree on this for the most part. :))

We made it back to good old Amsterdam around 22:00 last night. So, 950 kilometers in 12 hours, including 150 km’s of back roads and city driving, and a one hour dinner break. Gotta love the German Autobahns if you want to keep your average up.

Thanks Tomcat for being such a great tourguide - thanks for sacrificing most of your spare time this weekend. To everyone else, it was a pleasure meeting you, and hopefully we’ll raise a pint (or an apple juice, what the hell!) in the future.

Dammit. I completely forgot to ask Filip, even though I was reminding myself of doing so all morning before settling our bill. :frowning:

Thing is, as we were trying to pay, Filip was busy fighting this young French couple over the price of a week’s stay, so our bill came sort of in between, and I forgot to ask about the camera. Maybe you can send him an e-mail, or call him? I can e-mail you his mobile number, if you like.

Sorry mate, it completely slipped my mind when it mattered most.

curly chick, I’ll try to upload the photos tonight if I find the time.

You’ll have to let us know about that and if the news is good I’ll raise a Becherovka to your success. Oh yes, I bought a bottle in the supermarket before I left.

And as for you Coldfire - a DubDope? In spring? No, that would be a terrible idea. Just terrible.
I’m lying now; it would be great!

Also, I asked Maastricht to ask about your camera as well, so perhaps she did that. Her and Jacques are heading back today.

I had a great time, thanks everyone. And definitely, TomCat, I really appreciate your hospitality. With a cold and lots of work to do, you still blew your weekend entertaining the tourists.

Dekuju!

That was me. Sorry!
