Or the lack of good classic “fairy tale” like stories for democratic nations.
Off the top of my head I can think only of Rip Van Winkle and that one only had a subplot, about how the hero got in hot water, by still showing loyalty to the king of England.
I am not against fairy tales, only that I wonder why we don’t seem to have a tradition of creating children’s tales with a democratic message.
Any other good tales or stories that could become democratic memes for the future generations?
How about Swiss Family Robinson? They fight the pirate band (read Commies).
The Swiss Family Robinson is only half there Omniman.
There is indeed a good fight against a totalitarian power, but in the end the family founds New Switzerland, a new colony, with the family remaining loyal subjects to the king.
Oops, Half my fault Northern Piper. I actually assumed that from the book. (These are fairy tales we are talking about, not history)
When the heroes founded a colony at the end, I assume they remained loyal to an empire and therefore loyal to an emperor or king.
Well, it was certainly a patriarchy at any rate. Neither the kids nor the Mom seemed to have equitable status with der Vater, ja?
What about The Wizard of Oz?
